Considering the current warm spell, I guess the sugaring season is about done, eh?
I think it’s just about finished here (pun intended)…we had to dump some sap that we could not keep cold. We did a small batch this morning it’s enough for 1/2 gallon of finished syrup. we’ll see what happens end of this week and next. If we don’t get back to freeze that we won’t put the buckets back out.

You can still pull sap in warm weather, but you have to be able to keep it cold or it will spoil and then also it will draw a lot of bugs…ants, moths, spiders and bees plus all kinds of other stuff seem to flock to it. Cold weather keeps bugs away and prevents spoilage. Once the buds come out on the trees the sugar content will be lower.

I can tell you I have trees budding out and that usually lets us know we’re done. We pulled buckets off today to clean as past few days been warm and spoiling the sap.

Got to love these temp swings, Friday at noon, we are 81 degrees. Saturday at noon we were 45 degrees. Not sure if I'm supposed to be wearing shorts or long underwear.
It's all relative. We hit -50ºF a few days ago. This morning it's +5ºF. I'm wearing shorts right now.

Took advantage of a non-precip day (finally) to clean up the horse farm neighbors white pine blowdown. It ended up in another farmers field, so, it had to go.

Too wet for hauling out today but at least I got it out of his field.

Well I know it’s not tractor related but I’m too excited to not share this. I went to the dealership yesterday and well…I bought my first truck. Not using it to tow the tractor with but it’s gonna be daily driver or weekly driver depending if I car pool occasionally.

View attachment 170766

I struggled for years and worked my butt off, I figured I deserved to get myself a new truck that is my own. I was driving home and I couldn’t believe I actually bought a truck brand new.

I absolutely love the way this truck drives, it’s smaller than full size pick up but it still has a usable 6ft bed and drives like a truck!

It’s a 2026 Nissan Frontier SV 4x4 with dark armor package and the sv convenience package so it’s loaded with heated seats, mirrors, steering wheel, remote start, spray in bed liner, etc.
Congratulations!

My favorite vehicle I’ve ever had was a 2005 Frontier 4 door 4WD with a V6 and 6 speed manual. I would probably still have it, but needed a bit more towing capacity than its 7,500lb. Towed a 6,000lb camper from NC to Florida, Niagara Falls, and many places in between with that little truck.

Yeah, my oaks and maples are both budding out now. Supposed to be warm days and nights for most of the coming week.

im going to chang the location of the wheels and see if its eadier to roll. my initial thought was to support the center. but adding the top two boards under the operator platform i dont think its needed so im going to change that

That’s awesome. I hope to have a project like that eventually for mine.

Is there any reason not to make it pallet fork friendly other than tippiness of the implement? (I’ve thought I wanted pallet jack / pallet fork access from one end…however I am way behind on progress ☺

it would be way too dangerous. the pallet plus bh92 plus hydraulic thumb plus dirt is hitting at 2000lbs

first iteration was just a flat platform and that was super dangerous so i added two pieces to get solid 3 points of contact. built like that i can shove hard on the legs or stick and its not tippy at all.

i dont need to move it far just enough to adjust the positioning. with it on a rollers takes all of 3 minutes to attach it. just get the tractor close enough to hook up hydraulics then shove it where you need it.

better have a nice level smooth concrete floor or its never moving.

With 70°F it was time to get the snow plow off and get ready for Spring 💐

Most was done in about 15 minutes. Get Kubota out, drop snow plow, attach forks, go back in to pick RFM off shelf, take it outside and drop it, remove the forks, grab snow plow and set it on the shelf, put the bucket on and go grab chains/slings/winch to work on RFM maintenance.

Now for the RFM deck. The 7-1/2' deck needs to be flipped upside-down and set on saw horses to clean the underside. That's where the winch comes in. First, pick it up by the rear wheels and stand it on the front using the 3-point frame as a kick stand. Next rig the two front wheels with chains to the slotted angle to pick the front end of the deck. For the rear of the deck, hook a sling to the TPH frame and bring it over the deck to the winch. Snug the winch line, raise the FEL and head for the saw horses. Raise the FEL higher and then run the winch cable out to rotate it down. Went really slick and probably took longer to type this than to rig and flip the deck.

The underside of the deck already has a few different coatings so it seemed like a good idea to remove as much as possible without buying a sandblaster. Out came the Dremel Multimax and an old blade. It wasn't magical but it worked. There were sweet spots regarding the speed and angle of attack. In general about half speed and the side of the blade at about a 45° angle worked. That is being followed by a wire wheel in the angle grinder.

Now on to reading various threads to determine WHAT to coat it with. Over the last 30-some years I tried different paints, Lanox, Fluid Film, some sort of bitumen - and I'm still searching for something that's ALMOST perfect:)

I bought a Fein Cordless MulitMaster last year to help with boat projects and am amazed at how useful this sort of tool is for so many tasks. A couple of weekends ago in preparation for installing some VisionX lights on the F-250, I needed to cut out part of the grill on the steel front bumper/brushguard. I was thinking about the best way to do it and used the Fein and it went about as well as it could have. It made a tricky job really easy with great results.

I got a text yesterday afternoon to inform me that the QH20 is at the dealer and ready to be picked up. Given the current state of my hands I'm going to need help getting it in the truck and might need my neighbor to help me get it on the M6060.

I'll be at the dealer this morning for the QH20 and will also be taking photos of a used tractor that's on the lot that my friend in Kettle Falls might buy. I've agreed to deliver it to him if he buys it. We went looking at tractors a few months ago and soon realized that he needs something with plenty of room and this tractor could work well for him. More to come on both things.

Just cleaned and lubed the mower deck in preparation for the mowing season. Last year I learned the wheel spacers make it impossible to roll the deck underneath, so I'll just use the BH and/or loader to lift the tractor, roll the deck underneath, then drop the tractor on the deck before removing the BH and loader for mowing.

So I picked up the QH20 this afternoon and it's a beast. My neighbor will help me to get it out of the F-250 and into the garage, but I won't install it for a couple of days at least.

While I was at the local Kubota dealer, I bought the outer air filters for the MX6000 and M6060. The parts guy initially pulled the wrong filter for the M6060. He got me the filter for the L6060 and the price difference is HUGE! You can buy three M6060 filters for the price of one L6060 filter. What's the deal?

MX6000 R1401-42270 $35.93
M6060 59800-26110 $31.50
L6060 TD270-93232 $91.10

Welcome to the dark side…(congrats on the QH20)

The easiest thing I have found for on/off and moving the QH around is a harbor freight dolly…when I take off I, I lower the 3pt, then Unpin the top link and rotate towards me right into the dolly…the. Lower 3pt final amount to take off. After a couple tries the t will be mostly effortless. At least that is what works for me and is cost effective short of man handling it. (Install is just all that in opposite order…you know the drill) 👍

The QH20 came with a pair of CAT 2 to CAT 3 bushings that might work for me. I need to order some more bushings for other implements. I welded CAT 3 to CAT 2 pins on the Buhler/Farm King rear blade when I bought it so that implement won't need any bushings.

I'm planning on leaving the QH20 on the tractor permanently assuming that it doesn't interfere with the RC3712 on the drawbar.

I’ve not currently using the pieces and parts that came with mine…i either bought implant that fits, changed the pins (to extended pins) or modified the implement so that it takes a shouldered pin. (My beloved EA implements required some lovin’) In a couple cases there is not a reasonably modified pin layout for the implement the way it is used (ie. pto winch), but I have tried to pattern my LP cat 2/1 implements where I could and transferred pattern to my non LP implements, if that makes sense. Here is an example that I think you have seen before but maybe refreshes your ideas for your implements. From your previous posts I suspect you can do all that and more.
