Just had to break out the snowblower tonight at 10:30pm, 30-40 degree weather has caused the steep part of my driveway to go from almost a foot of hard packed snow and ice to soft snow and pure slush on top of a layer of ice Could barely make it up the driveway as the truck kept sinking in, skipping, and wanting to change direction. With it supposed to rain almost all day at 35 degrees then snow more tommorow, I figure if I didn’t at least try to get some of the slush off with the blower and scraping it with the bucket it would be borderline impossible to get up the driveway tommorow. It’s a pretty steep drop if I loose control going down so that was another motivator. I Really need to get rops lights, was sitting on the tractor with one of those lights that goes around your neck trying to adjust it so I could see while backing up lol. Otherwise was depending on the flash of the hazards to light the way.

Not today, yesterday. We received ~17" of real heavy wet snow. "Southern snow":). Not a common occurrence once into real winter. Slower than slow going snowblowing. What normally takes at most an hour to clear took more than twice the time. The good was. ReJex coated snowblower chute stayed totally free of snow. No constipated chute. More or less vertical icicle formed at the end of the chute from the moisture freezing as it existed the snowblower. 2nd time this has happened. Last time the snow had moisture, but not high quality snowball making snow. This last snowfall was almost too wet for snowballs.

Bit late in routine snowblower maintenance. Warm enough to grease anyplace with a zerk fitting. Needed to add some tension to the sprocket drive chain. One bugger moment. Before this last snowfall we had 3-4 days of highs ~20F warmer than normal. Mid-40s. Almost solid surface of ice created on the driveway. One small patch decided to rip off the driveway pulling with it a layer of gravel. Which proceeded to get ejected into the woods or thrown by the auger forward to take another run through the snowblower. Few scratches on the snowblower box and impeller paint job. Thought I could finally make it through a season without needing any paint repair. Life.

Same system dropped ~2x the amount along the Northshore. They also had multiple gusts, like once or twice an hour of ~60mph off the Lake. NE winds. Must have been gigantic waves and swells considering the few hundred mile fetch. We had occasional hard gusts, but the islands protect us from huge waves. Sure wish it would have been ~20F colder. The ~17" probably would have topped 30". Making it a heavy snowfall v. moderate. Plus more enjoyable snowblowing. This heavy wet snow can stay down south. I'll take cold and dry snow over this stuff any winter day.

Only an inch of snow to remove this morning but always fun to be out in the MX. Around 20°F this morning as I was blowing and plowing. Perhaps we'll have a winter yet, but somehow I doubt it with temperatures in the mid to high 40s this weekend.

I pulled the battery tonight…Rumor has it my local dealer has some parts in stock for me. I have a battery ready for replacement so I will pic that up with some other parts and have a belated valentines gift to my girls(B and MX) tomorrow…but who knows it could be an early St Paddy’s day, I will likely have a bourbon close at hand when installing battery. 🥃

Another late night snowblowing for me tonight since it was a rainy day which then transformed to snow. I was impressed that the tractor and blower combo was able to throw the slush mixture pretty far, figured it would be landing just to the left of the blower but it went well over my driveway. Had to go much slower, but man it’s nice when the wind isn’t sending everything back to you! I noticed some of my driveway between the street and the hill holds a lot of water so that will have to be regraded this summer or maybe bring some gravel in depending on cost. I’m thinking it usually holds an inch or so but because of the temps we have been having and the ground still frozen it was almost 4-6 inches. Snowblower isn’t to bad at being a water gun either I guess. Very thankful I was able to get a snowblower so quickly after moving more north. Doing the stuff I did the last two nights with the back blade and bucket would have been extremely difficult and taken probably 10x as long due to the sheer weight of the slush. I think even if I had a plow on it I don’t think I could push the snow with the machine without weighted tires and chains all around, even then I think I would stall out.

Has this upgrade been in the works for a while or is it a spur of the moment sort of thing? I've never owned a side by side or similar, but have seen conversions like this on YouTube and such. Is the motivation winter traction? Are you going to keep the tracks on all year round?

Woke up this morning with 10 inches of fresh snow, but this time it wasn't just powder, it was heavy wet stuff. Perfect for making snowman kinda of snow.

First did the majority of it with the plow.

IMG_4790.jpeg

Then I switched to the bucket to do a little clean up. It was 30f so it actually felt warm to me since it has been in the single digits and teens for over a month.

IMG_4792.jpeg

But the trusty L2501 had no problems. My neighbor asked me to see if I could remove some of her potted plant containers still full of dirt that were frozen so I gave it a try. I removed most of them, leaving what was left looking like they were sheared off 🤣

Man, I love having a tractor though. Wish I had one years ago.

I been busy with work lately and haven't had much leisure time to post but slowly coming back around to finding ways to spend my free time again.

Even posted a video, well just love the way the Kubotas sound. I'm weird ok.

I bought them in November. They were used and about half the cost of new. The dealer out all new bearings on tbe four of them and I didn't put them on because we had next to no snow.

Our travels are getting shorter since the snow started and seems to keep coming so I figured I may as well use them. They cut top speed by 50% but seem to climb over everything. I'll take them back off once the snow is gone.

I remember when you first bought the L2501. You were questioning if you bought too big of a tractor. Sounds like you feel different now after some seat time!

I didn't do much tractor stuff today other than take some measurements of various implements and convince myself that a Land Pride QH20 on the back of the M6060 will make my life better. I'm an unabashed fan of Quick Hitches having had a QH05 and currently have a QH10 and QH15. In truth, I shouldn't have bought the QH15 but rather put the money towards a QH20 instead, but better late than never. The QH20 is $$$ but the sting will soon pass once I'm able to pick up at least four implements with ease.

Good day. I went with the QH20 from the start on the MX. at the time I was not aware it of a PATs…I think the QH is easier to use with a QH compatible implement, but it’s still fixed. I think the flexible of width would be handy. That being said, I have bought mostly Landpride implements that are QH compatible. I still have a few that are not, but that’s life. If something is a deal or it doesn’t come in QH compatible, if you want it have to deal with it.

Since my original tractor and QH purchase added a hydraulic top link, which IMO, adds favor to the QH over the PAts….i did not feel that way prior to having the hydraulic top link though. I am glad I have QH now on the MX…I was considering selling it and putting pats on but would not bother doing that now having the HTL.

I went with the QH20 and my logic was that I thought it would be simpler, if necessary to modify implements to make them wider rather than narrow at the pins. QH fits all my LPs just fine. It’s really the off brand cat1 stuff that needed some lovin’ to fit. I’ve been Lucky with being able to add the longer stepped Cat1/2 pins and that’s usually enough extra width for the fit. The other consideration I had was that I thought there was potential to eventually have a larger machine so I decided to buy cat 2 implements so they are shareable with the next one the spousal unit buys me. 😉

depending on your inventory of implements I think you will happy with the QH20…you demonstrated in previous posts you have the skill and ability to do precision metal work so i suspect if you have a couple stubborn pieces you could modify them pretty handily if motivated to do so. (I’ve modified a couple of perfectly good EA implements to fit the QH20 and not sure dollars and cents it made sense, but makes the work easier that is for sure)

Yes, a QH needs top-n-tilt to really shine.

The EA box blade, EA land leveler and Land Pride RC1884 all work with the QH10, QH15 or QH20 due to the dual pin design on all three implements, but I've always connected to them using CAT 1 pins. With the QH20 I can use the CAT 2 pins, but more importantly, I'll be able to use the rear Buhler/Farm King rear blade with the QH20. The QH20 weighs 120 lb so a bit of a beast so hopefully I won't need to switch it out too often.

Thanks! After the mechanic came out and fixed the issues it has been great! I got the SB1064 with the hardened steel wear edge and outer adjustable skid shoes. All the adjustments on mine are manual but they can have hydraulics if you have two rear remotes. If you are looking at getting one I definitely do not recommend going any larger than the sb1064 with an l2501. Most of the time I’m in low gear just 1/4 press on the pedal. In any significant snow amount it will bog the tractor down if I use more pedal. Beats doing it with a blade or by hand though! Just had to learn to keep the speed low and it just chews through it no questions asked. I can do my driveway in 3 passes but usually take 4 or 5 just because it’s fun and to really get it as wide as possible. After the initial pass I typically position it so only 3/4 of the auger is actually being used
