New to diesel -- what don't I know?

Not as cold as SD, but cold enough to gel diesel. You should be more worried about a block heater than diesel formulation.

New to diesel -- what don't I know?

Agree with the posters that you're overthinking this. ULSD you get from from pretty much any pump is fine. Lubricity is only really an issue for injector pumps. You would see a boatload of Kubotas with failed injector pumps if the lubricity of #2 was insufficient. Refineries produce...

MX5800 - Oil very dark AFTER 50 hour oil change...

You quote me, say it's not true, don't want to argue, and are done with the discussion... and then post again? Silly. You misread 30 years of Army maintenance as "Army maintenance 30 years ago". Believe what you want. It's demonstrable that new oil in a diesel engine turns black very...

MX5800 - Oil very dark AFTER 50 hour oil change...

Motor oil in a diesel will start to blacken almost immediately, and it doesn't matter if it's dino oil or synthetic. Don't worry about the color. 30 years of Army maintenance.

    Another B2401

Congrats. I wasn’t sure about the R14s on my 2601 until last week, when I pulled out the roofing company’s scissor lift they got stuck in the back yard. The R4s on my previous tractor would have just loaded up with mud and spun, just like the loader tires on the scissor lift did.

New to diesel -- what don't I know?

Diesel has a much higher flash point than gasoline, and uses compression to ignite. Compression ratios that would cause detonation in a gas engine are "standard" in diesels. Because of this, diesels have glow plugs that heat the combustion chambers. How long to use them? Depends. I don't...

    Kubota B2601 Seat Upgrades?

Nope. Just adds a mechanism below the seat plate that allows it to popup and swivel.

    B2301 knocking

Need a video or audio recording. Diesel's knock at idle. If you have a bad bearing or wrist pin, the knocking will get louder with RPM's.

    Analysis Paralysis L2501/LX2610SU…….B2601

In the European market? Yeah, they’ll probably still be selling it. U.S. market? Highly unlikely. ;) I suppose the L Grand is comparable in creature comfort.

    Analysis Paralysis L2501/LX2610SU…….B2601

I was at my dealer’s a few days ago and they had an LX2610SU on the lot. If you don’t need the mid-PTO, and a few other “nice to haves”, it’s a lot of tractor for the money (mainly the larger displacement engine with more low-end torque). The non-SU version will cost a little more, but have...

    Analysis Paralysis L2501/LX2610SU…….B2601

Backing up with the brush hog is handy, but I’ve got limbs trimmed now so there’s not much I can’t get under (I’ve got walking paths through the woods). I’ve got some fencerow with woods bordering the property and a bunch of brush and locust saplings that grow quick. Backing into it with the...

    Full Throttle

Sounded to me like when he starts it, it runs at full throttle and blows some black smoke.

    Analysis Paralysis L2501/LX2610SU…….B2601

I maintain 6 acres or so. 2 Acres of pasture I brush hog periodically, 3/4 acres of yard and the rest woods. I thought a subcompact would be fine. It was, to some extent. The smaller tractor and 4’ brush hog got through the woods easily to cut saplings and whatnot. It was easy to get across...

    Full Throttle

I assume you’re asking a question. The black smoke, unless it’s billowing, doesn’t mean anything. If it’s stuck on full throttle there is a problem with the throttle linkage or throttle body. You should take it to the dealer or a qualified mechanic. Shouldn’t be a difficult fix. —edit— +1...

Buying a B2301 with attachment and recommendations

I was kind of in your boat, and upgraded from a Massey SCUT (GC1710) to a B2601. There are a few reasons, but the lack of position control on the Massey's 3 point was the primary one. If you look at a scut, Deere is about the only one with position control. If you do any work regularly with...
