I have a L2900, got it with a hole on the block at only 300 hours, the hole is just above the starter and it looks like the rod broke and banged around good inside before it found an exit. I need a complete engine replacement, to make things easy, unless I find a short block with good crank etc...

yes at 55 you should get about 5-6 seconds of glow indicator at a minimum. i suspect the coolant temp plug wire loose somewhere or it has some corrosion on the temp sensor itself or threads where it goes into the block. i'd try to clean it up and wire brush the threads and check ohms with it...
