Yes it does clear up after starting...So there's really no way to diagnose it other than change the injectors?, also once it has been running & shut it down for a couple of hours it restarts fine like there's no issue...I agree no aftermarket.....always OEM..... Thanks

Actually the tractor isn't mine..it belongs to a widow who has been mowing herself the past several years...I did ask her if she ever used 'either' - she asked 'what's that'?...so that was a good sign....I did pull the cover on the air cleaner to see if some mice made a nest, it was debris free...

Have a B1700 with about 900 hours that can almost crank a battery dead before firing when cold......Will start OK at operating temperature, but overnight hard start. I'm puzzled by the black smoke coming out the exhaust while cranking ???

You had 32 views & no replies...I'm no expert but what I would do is a flush...Drain, change filter if it has one, clean the screen if it has one.....fill it with the cheapest oil you can find, run it a bit, drain, & refill with the fluid as recommended in the manual....I don't think you can do...

Excuse my ignorance here but, There's all this chatter about metal filings, shavings, ect and I don't see where anyone questioned or is concerned, other than its normal ? - Normal ???... I have to equate with other mechanical things that I have, and nothing else that I own or have owned...

I'm seeing the general consensus is to change the oil....I get that the filter & screen picks up the shavings but I would think there still would be fragments...We're talking 50 hr. service, this relates to rather brand new tractors...With a $20k & up investment, where is the logic in saving...

As a side bar...I worked part time at a small engine repair shop, & one day a 'B' series Kubota came in to have a new mower deck replaced & service. This tractor belonged to some kind of a non profit organization & did not have an actual owner, yes as you can imagine it was run hard....Anyhow...

D2cat... 'There are no contaminants in a transmission to need filtered out.'.......I fully agree about combustion gasses, but question the statement on contaminants....The small metal particles that accumulate on the screen is a good indication whether the fluid has to be changed or not...
