B7100 Adding alternator to replace Dyno ???

Hi,

Looking for help or suggestions. I am trying to figure the best way to add an alternator to a B7100 (1983) to replace the dyno. I need more output for lighting when plowing.

My plan is to make a bracket to replace the idler pulley assembly and mount a small profile alternator in it's place on the left side of the engine, above the oil filter. The photos are of the existing idler pulley system I am hoping to replace.

I have read somewhere on here that a Geo Metro alternator (about 40 Amp) would be a good (small profile) choice.

Has anyone fabricated a mounting bracket for this location yet? Wondering what challenges to watch out for before I start...

Thanks, Dan

Go through Rob's threads, the factory location is on the right side above the injector pump. There are factory brackets.

if you have a auto electric shop near you they might have some options for you. There are several styles that are rewired so there is only one wire to hook up (internal regulators). Not sure if any of the compact ones are done like that but there are plenty of the full size 1980's style delco/gm done that way, mounted on the top right a fullsize might fit anyway.

Sorry, I have not been on OTT for a while. Who is Rob, so that I can find his threads? Wow, I had no idea that Kubota had factory brackets to fit the B7100.

Finding that thread would be a big help.

Thanks, Dan

I didn't catch the original location of the alternator till it was too late when I altered mine.
I wouldn't recommend putting in the location of the idler pulley, even though I didn't use a small profile ,it would have still stuck out a ways.
I used a 125amp Chevy alternator that I had laying around, I can light up the world now!:D

Yea it was a little overkill , but it was just lying around collecting dust.:D
It's output is a little week on idle, but anything past that and it's fine.

Has anyone in the states tried to get the part numbers from the a B7100 tractor like Rob's and do a conversion using Kubota factory brackets?

Can we in the states order the parts for the EU version of the B7100?

Rob, me too. I'd like part numbers as well to make this alternator conversion.

I'll bet an alternator from a motorcycle or similar vehicle would have worked. There is a 2001 Triumph Daytona 955I alternator for sale on Ebay for $70 bucks. Not sure what the output would be.

I changed all my lighting to LED so I did not need to change the dyno.
PLENTY bright enough

Nice... Show us. We need photos... LOL

What did you use for LED's and where did you get them. We need details.

Thanks, Dan

I converted my B2400 a few years ago, used a 40amp alternator from a Toyota forklift ( I'm a Toyota Lift tech, it was there and it fit )

My dynamo had seized and in the attempt to tear down and replace the bearings I managed to fubar the shaft.

I fanagled the Toyota 'Denso alternator into the factory dynamo mounts with minimal mods to mounts, ran it as a belt tensioner for several months until I had time to rework the wiring. ( total loss on battery, never did need to jump start )

It is now wired in and charging, I did not cut any of the under dash wiring to make it work, just made jumpers and plugged them into the connector for the dynamo rectifier ( removed )
