Hi, recently I have purchased dumper trailer. Thanks all who helped me choose. Here is the previous thread Dumper trailer choice
Some of you also recommended getting brakes, so it got me thinking, and I really want them now :) Wheels of the trailer are really small. Look at the image attached. Russell King suggested to look at this page and it was really useful because I think I was able to track them and I think they are of a this kind: https://www.etrailer.com/dept-pg-Trailer_Tires_and_Wheels-pc-8_Inch.aspx
But I couldn't find brakes for such small wheels https://www.etrailer.com/dept-pg-Trailer_Brakes.aspx
I was aiming at electrical brakes, but would be happy with any I guess. I searched the internet and couldn't find much except that such wheels are used on ATVs.
And then I managed to find this:
Can you tell if this would work for my case? And what else do I need? It looks like these brakes should connect to some kind of a brake cable?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks. So I need both? Hub and drum assembly as well as brakes? Sorry I am completely clueless about this. I guess the first is like a cup within which there are brakes? It says 7" in the title (diameter of the drum I guess) but in description it says it is for Wheel size: 10" to 13". Would that would work for 8" wheel, which I THINK my is?

Yes you buy the hubs and then the brake setup to match.
If the inside of the rim is too small then you would need to go to a larger rim size to accommodate the brake drum.
You would also need to check the spindle size and length to make sure it matches what you need.

Out of curiosity, why do you think you need trailer brakes ? Is it for pulling the trailer behind your tractor or vehicle ? Would you prefer electric or hydralic ?

Go to this page and move to the bottom to read articles about adding electric or hydraulic brakes.

You should see something like this

From my memory you would be able to buy brakes that can bolt onto most normal trailer axles. I am not sure what your axles are or if they have been prepared for brakes. These articles should lead you through a process and that may require a new axle. You may need to call and see if they have brakes for your off road trailer or if they are even manufactured.

@Orangeglow , the main reason I’m considering brakes is the downhill section. I can avoid collecting firewood in places where I’d need to go downhill with a full trailer, and I have a winch, so I can always drag the logs to a flat spot first. The real problem is getting the empty trailer out of the garage. The garage is on a hill, and to reach the gravel road I have to go down that slope.

Last winter, when the ground was frozen, I went down that same hill with just the tractor and it started skidding—the rear end began sliding sideways, and for a moment I genuinely thought it might roll over. Now I’m trying to imagine that same situation with a trailer behind me pushing, even if it’s empty.

My tractor tires aren’t in great shape either, so I’m considering new ones and possibly chains. I’ll try to avoid ice when I can, but the hill has no pavement—just grass and mud—so it’s slippery even when it’s simply wet. I’m planning to install honeycomb concrete path grids in two tracks, which should help in the future.

Thanks. I guess I need to take off the wheel first to inspect everything. Could you tell based on the photo only if its compatible with brake drum of any size at all? From what I have read it could be with either machined bearing seats, a seal surface (needed for brake modification), or it is only a straight garden-type stub axle which is not compatible.

Thanks. I will take off the wheel first to see what I have. Will have to wait for another weekend unfortunatelly because the trailer is not where I live.

I would prefer electric. But given the current situation, I will not be picky 😅

Avoid hydraulic brakes if you can as the controller for it is EXPENSIVE!
