This might be the wrong place to post this but as much help I've got from members I have to try.
I sold my kx41-3 and got a KX121-3 (2007). I needed something larger.
So here is what happened. After getting it home I started the clean up before doing a complete service.
The IC display would only show RPMs, Temp and HRs. I knew this up front. Also the control locks all but track movement something I could live with till fixed. I removed the battery to clean the area and the under belly. Installed the battery and started the unit, The display will only show KX41-3. Checked connections and fuses, all good. Did a google search no luck.
Sure could use some suggestions on what is going on......Thanks ahead of time!

You may need to set the time and date.

I was in a big hurry to post this and get back to work My first mini was a KX41-3 that members here helped me repair the display (it sold) I need help with is the KX121-3 IC unit. The battery was removed for cleaning, once replaced I started the machine. Now its displaying KX40-3. I have no idea why. From what I read tonight the IC and ECU from a KX40-3 will not work in a KX121-3
I can not figure out how to return it back to the first screen OR why it would display the KX140-3

Please slow down and type something that we can follow.
You now say it displays KX40-3 and KX140-3... Which is it?
Not trying to be nitpicky, but details matter when you are trying to get to the bottom of a complex issue.

Now that I have sleep some. The unit is a 2007 KX121-3. The display is showing KX41-3. The display will only show KX41-3. This morning when I went out to make sure of the numbers I got on the machine and when I sit down I touched the display and heard a beep. When I looked at the display it was showing Hr, fuel, and temp like it originally did BUT the key was OFF. (surprise). When I started the machine the display changed to KX41-3. When I turned the machine off the display went away. I started the machine again the KX41-3 was in the display. Sorry for the mix up Ill try to do better. Thanks for you help.

Sounds like that display is common to both machines and needs to be 'programmed' for the one it's in. 'Iffy' connections could have reset the computer, possibly a bad or intermittent ground.
I suggest disconnecting the battery, the remove/replace the display connectors several times, then reattach the battery cable and see what happens.

Disconnected the battery last night. Unplugged the two connection on the back. Cleaned the connection with contact cleaner. Reconnected each plug several time. Plugged them in several times. Connected the battery. Same problem. The just for chuckles I pushed up on each wire in the connectors. Turn the key on and IT WORKED,,,,Problem solved. All this for a lose connection....
You guys are the best!!!! Thanks so much.
Lower exhaust fixed, cleaned, side hood repaired. Next the control shut off, and service,,
