What should I be looking for? I'm a newbie so take it easy on me.
While you have been given good advise, I'll throw a monkey wrench in the gears with a question ... Are " maintaining" or "building new"?I just need something for driveway and trail work that is functional.
You could definitely make money on that now, especially if you have the rippers. It's been a long time since I was looking for implements, they seem to have dried up. But I did get a 6 footer, box blade (no name that I could find). It's been really good and helped build a road to my creek. Got it for $250 and I'm sure I could sell it for more, now...
You have to be really quick since resellers will buy it cheap and just mark it up... It's hard to find good deals nowadays....
Yes maintaining. I'll add new trails over time but primary goal is maintenance for now. While you have been given good advise, I'll throw a monkey wrench in the gears with a question ... Are " maintaining" or "building new"?
For maintenance, which I'm guessing is what you really want to do ... I'd consider a "Land Plane" ... 60" - 72" some have rippers too, if you want them ...
"Amen" to this.Once you get a rear blade, you WILL WANT a rear hydraulic toplink to make on-the-fly adjustments so much easier.
The BB1560 has the round pins, which are spring clip held.I don’t have time to read the replies right now, but one thing that concerned me was the way the ripper teeth are attached.
Personally, I would not have one that takes “special clips” to hold the shanks in place. I would only buy one that uses simple “pins” to hold the teeth in place.
I passed on a Landpride model for this very reason.
(Unless you can weld and could convert it…)
..just my .02
Purchased a used LandPride when I downsized to the BX. Couldn't pass up the price for the few scratches and one of shanks showing a bit of rust. QH compatible. The clips stink. Replaced them with a set of L style shank holders. Simple and inexpensive fix to the poor system LP uses.I don’t have time to read the replies right now, but one thing that concerned me was the way the ripper teeth are attached.

3. you dont want to go immediately into emergency repair mode part way through the first use....The best reasons to NOT buy a used box blade: 1. You like new things. 2. You are not concerned about cost.
I have one from Rural King that's 48" wide and a tiller from there that'sThey sell so fast. I've had a lead on 2 that were gone in 12 hours before I got a reply to my message.
Tractor supply is an option. I assumed they were lighter weight 'cheap' model compared to something higher priced, but I could be wrong. Has anyone used one? I would like QH capable for future options even though I don't have one yet.
Not trying to muddy up your plans but I have two box blades... 5' and a 6'. Both are sub par compared to the land plane for leveling up a driveway or other uneven ground. If you are trying to move dirt or gravel then the box blade works well. If you want to fill in ruts or put a crown on a gravel driveway, the land plane it the ticket. I was super skeptical until I bought one.Thanks. Yes I have a truck and access to a trailer so I can go get it. I'm not willing to travel 8 hours for a box blade, my time is worth too much it'd be cheaper to buy new at dealer.
Would love to have hydraulic remotes added one day. That's way down the list though, for now I just need something for driveway and trail work that is functional.
Looks like 700-950 for one used in decent shape. What does the Landpride 1260 go for at the dealer these days new?
I almost bought this Land Pride HR3584 from the local dealer a few years ago. Kind of wish I had to be honest but at the time I didn't think it was particularly affordable which in hindsight was a mistake given the current cost of implements. I have a 7ft EA box blade, 7ft EA land leveler and an 8ft Buhler/Farm King rear blade with 3-way hydraulics, but this thing sure would be nice. The EA method of adjusting the height of the scarifiers on the the box blade and land leveler are ok but still annoying compared to moving a lever in the cab. Here you go.
I've got a slope that gravel washes down regularly so I feel a box blade would be better but maybe I'm wrong. There are even fewer land planes than box blades for sell used, and of course they cost more, so I may have to wait until I find the deal or can afford new. I'm definitely open to a land plane though. Not trying to muddy up your plans but I have two box blades... 5' and a 6'.
