looking to add an implement to the B2630

the mmm deck RCK 60-30B which fits my unit seems like it might be a bit of a labour of love since its not hydraulically controlled .... so ... thinking about trying to find a used 60" finish mower

all comments welcome!

thanks

Not sure what you mean by not being hydraulically controlled----does it not raise and lower with the 3 pt?

In any case, rear finishing mowers (with rear discharge) are great (IMO) as long as you don't have any or only a few obstacles to mow around. Too many trees, out buildings, etc. for me to use one on my couple of acres.

yeah and if it had the forward arms that the mmm arms hook up to it, it would .... however there are no arms on my tractor and the unit itself is a older larger version of that one in the video

that's why i was looking to see if there was an adaptor of some type to go to the 3 pt that hangs off the back

i've seen nothing that will do it so i thought id ask this group before getting the finishing mower is all

thanks

A problem with modifying a mid-mount to work on the 3-point hitch is the RPM of the rear PTO versus a mid-PTO.

The mid-PTO runs 2-2,500 RPM, where the rear PTO is usually only 540. (Some tractors do have a 1,000 RPM option, but not widely common)

Wouldn’t get much blade speed driving it at 540.

First - welcome to OTT!!

Assumptions:
1) You acquired/have an older used tractor
2) None of the linkages 1 through 6 shown below came on the tractor
(note: picture is for my tractor not yours, but you get the idea).
3) You do NOT currently have a MMM.
4) You DO have all the 3 pt. parts on the tractor.

Option 1 (my pick) - get a finish mower, and maybe a Quick Hitch for easy on/off. Might be challenging if you're mowing around lots of obstacles but gets the job done.

Option 2 - Buy All the linkages, buy a used MMM, fix, install and adjust everything, mow to your hearts content. More labor involved and possibly cost, but doable.

If you DO have a MMM with the PTO shaft and are just missing the Front Link and bracket (highlighted) then I'd try to find one and go with the MMM. An easy fix. Never looked for a front link so not sure if they are even available for that tractor or what it would cost.

I have both and the RFM will not give as good a cut as the MMM does. If cut quality matters to you I would look into options to make the MMM do what you want or buy the correct MMM and linkages for your tractor.

Just reread your first post - I've never seen a MMM adapted to operate on the 3 pt.
Not sure I'd even recommend it - but hey, not saying it can't be done.

I think trying to fit a MMM to an old tractor is a bad idea. If you ever switched tractors, you'd have to switch all of the connectors. A finish mower could work on any tractor, so it's future proof.

thanks for all the replies

i was not trying to drag the unit backwards, i was looking to see if there was a set up that would reach from the 3 pt to the mmm area

there is a new mmm deck that fits but it's $4k, the brand new 60" mid mower deck i have available to me is brand new just old stock and its $1k so i thought i'd check and see if there was a way to make it safely and effectively work

i am new to this forum and this is my first post / request for help

anyone want a brand new unused RCK60-32 deck ser#14130 for the $1k i paid for it?

thanks again

From what I understand, most MMM use the PTO. Assuming you can weld, you could add brackets to the top of the mowing deck to hook to the top of the MMM. Then, possibly adapt the PTO shaft to connect to the rear PTO. I don't know what direction it turns though, so you might have to change the direction as well, or reverse the blades to cut in the opposite direction.

No worries Mate! You're doing fine for your first post. Don't give up.

As Jim points out in post #13 above if you not going to keep the tractor more than a couple years then a 3pt. finish mower is the way to go. You can sell this tractor, buy a new(er) one and still use the FM. Just don't expect to easily mow around a lot of obstacles.

Even though the B2360 has some age to it I bet you could find the levers needed. Say you spend another $1K on it, you have an essentially "new" mower set up for $2K, half price. And possibly cheaper than a used finish mower. You are putting it on a 13+ year old tractor but well cared for tractors can run for decades.

If you want to go that route try calling Messicks, they can be very helpful. Tell them what you have and are trying to do, They may have the parts you need or may be able to point you in the right direction. Or not.

Based on parts availability, cost and difficulty you decide - no matter what we say - which is best for you. And that's what matters.

Keep posting and let us know how you make out.
