I've got a fence installation job coming up and would like to get an auger for the mini. I was thinking that I could grab one of the inexpensive Chinese mini augers that are all over FB marketplace and add the Kubota coupler to it for my U-27.

I'm not in the fence business but can see the potential of having one handy when those jobs come up. I'd be sticking to small diameter augers in the 9"-12" range.

Planning to do the same thing to a cheap 40" tilt bucket set up as well.

Has anyone tried one out? Am I simply wasting my time and should be looking elsewhere?

Devils' A here.

how much does the MinC auger cost ?
how much to install it ?
how much for bits (9", 12" ) ?

how much to RENT an auger with bits ?

Most post guys here RENT their augers( PHD ),cost past onto customers.
saves BUYING it outright, storing it, servicing it, fixing it,looking at it....

Here in Michigan Sunbelt rentals rents the auger drive for a mini ex for $110.00 per day and a 24" Auger for $33 and extensions for $9 each.
At least that is what they told me for the cost to rent the stuff for drilling 7' deep holes for my ground mount array.

I like having Implements available for use at anytime
It doesn't look like a huge investment to get one, so I can't see where it would be a bad choice.

I took a cursory look for a rental auger drive but can't locate anything to fit my machine. U-27 and U-25 share the same quick coupler but neither are common at rental places. Most rentals that I see go from U-17 right to U35, then KX-40, KX-57 and KX-80.

I rarely rent equipment anyway. Too much wasted time pickup/returns and I typically have to fix their junk anyway.

Priced out a few commercial units, but they are in the 4K range. I think I may just pick up a cheap Chinese unit and give it a try. It would likely be in the $700 range in total for the driver, 2 augers and fab/weld on the coupler ears.

Wow! That's awfully cheap for all of those components so it'll be interesting to hear your thoughts if you go that route. What oil flow rating are you looking for or do you need for a PHD to be well matched to your U-27?

I bought a used Land Pride HD25 PHD for $1,750 a few years ago from the Kubota dealer in Sheridan, WY. It came with 9" and 12" augers but I plan on buying a rock auger this spring which will cost close to what I paid for the PHD. It has a 5-12 gpm rating which matches up quite well to the M6060 with an 11 gpm hydraulic pump rating.

I regularly check out the inventory of the dealer in WY since they list a lot prices on their website.

hmm, at $700ish, sounds like it could, should, would ? pay for itself in 1 or 2 jobs. After that if it breaks, oh well, it paid for itself. If it survives 3,5,10 jobs..great, you got a winner !!!
Just be careful if the ground is 'rocky' !

If I can find a reasonably priced commercial unit I'd prefer to go that route. I think even a skid steer version would work as well with some "customization" to the mount.

I think my U-27 Auxiliary flow is about 13 GPM. Machine is set up with aux ports with thumb diverter valve. So, I can just use those and operate the auger using the normal hydraulic thumb switch for forward and reverse. There is a flow rate control knob on top of the instrument panel so I wouldn't even need to go into the machine settings.
