V3800 engine water in oil.

When filling the radiator. Crankcase takes the water as if you were pouring it straight in the oil fill. Engine would run and blow oil before it had water added. I'm saying head gasket. There is a chance on egr or oil cooler or block. What's everyone's thoughts. Thanks

There are often 'freeze plugs' in the front of the block behind the gear case. If these corrode or come out, coolant pours straight into the crankcase.

If it's "blowing oil" and dumping water into the crankcase it's very unlikely to be as simple as a head gasket, but pull the head and find out.

Is it just a independent engine or is it in a piece of equipment or tractor?

In a piece of equipment I bought salvage. I know nothing about it. Radiator was dry when I got it. I changed the oil just to see what it looked like. No water but real dirty. I put a battery in it to see if engine made any noise. No noise and it hit, so after the third long winding it fired up and blew smoke and oil and skipped. I cut it off and started filling the radiator. It sounded like it went straight to the oil pan. I can't figure why it didn't have water in oil to start with unless it sat so long with a dripping oil plug that it emptied the water as it went to bottom of oil pan. And the oil was so thick it stayed. When I got it the radiator was dry up top and had a white powdery residue. Other than the skip and oil spray it ran pretty good. Looked like I run a oil soaked rag around inside exhaust pipe.

It's real hard to get at and it's 94° here. May not be worth fixing.

Had a customer that bought a Audi 5000 that had no water in it for a long time. The customer decided to just keep driving it as repairs were more than double what he paid for it. Customer drove it for a few years like that, just had to wire in a couple 12 volt heater in it for him come the first winter. I could not believe it if I had not seen it. IIRC drove 25k with no antifreeze in it before it was involved in an accident and the insurance company bought it. :ROFLMAO:

I was thinking it might have a blown head gasket that's got into a oil supply to the head. What ever it is it ain't no pin hole.

It's more likely a popped freeze plug under the front gear case.
That will cause water / coolant to dump right into the oil pan.

If it only ran for a very short time then it more than likely was just residual oil / moisture in the system and that was what is blowing out of the exhaust.

It's a common rail electronic inj. So the injectors are under valve cover. I haven't looked for glow plugs. A compression test would probably give me some better ideas.

So it's the same engine as the SVL95.
That is one complicated engine.
No glow plugs.
If it's got any oil coming out of the exhaust it's not in good shape, and if it still has all the emissions equipment on it, it's not going to run for long.

I think it's gone be a paper weight. I don't have enough paper to support it. Lol
