Not sure how are the measurements are made. Longer tooth you lose lever advantage for breaking roots. In actual use I never felt it was too short. Using the tip to cut, split or break roots important Clearing top roots allows deeper penetration. Large oak, maple, persimmon cedar. Agree with the shank and hitch length should not hit the boom. The design geometry of a close to a bucket should maximize breakout force.

Kubota 12” excavator compared to 12” B26 bucket.

Test fit no-go. Need to trim OEM ears to similar profile of bucket to clear thumb.

Got it on. Some interference with thumb articulation. Thinking how best to move the ears to give best geometry.

Does your ripper tip come that close to touching the boom on your M59?
Does not hit the boom on the M59. About 1.5” clearance.

Does hit the boom on the B26. The ears are only tacked to the excavator coupler. Thinking about trimming the ears more to have front “C” go from top to the bottom of the coupler. This give about 4” more clearance from the boom to ripper tooth. Also move the ears toward the tractor about an inch will give thumb more clearance. Sleep on it and look with fresh eyes before cutting. Prototype growing pains.

Had this red oak uprooted during storm last night. Root ripping job.

Have ordered and paid for my "Ox Thumbs" 28" ripper.
Now, just waiting for it to arrive from GA (via UPS).

I still think that the tip will not hit the boom on my L48, but am not absolutely certain of that.
If it does hit, I am planning to glue a 4" square piece of flat hard rubber to the bottom of the boom, at that particular spot.

Think you will enjoy your new ripper. Useful tool. Measuring from the bottom of front “C” of the quick attach to the tip would give the overall length to compare rippers.

Third attempt at improving the ear placement fit. Much better fit and function. Full articulation of the thumb. The ripper can contact the boom if not careful.

Now to lay in a couple of good welds and test dig. This might just work.

Great work!! i only have the 12" bucket and ripper for my little BH. I love having the QA, and the ripper makes much faster work of roots. i have the plans to build a trailer hitch and a 16" ditching bucket. hope to get those done this summer.

i love seeing the stuff people make/modify on this page.

Wow, those last pics look like a million bucks compared to the previous fitment. The way that ripper tucks in there with the arm folded, between the teeth of the thumb and everything, is like it was just meant to be!

NICE work!

Final adjustments made. Quick attach pins can be installed or removed without tools. Receiver hitch parts fitted. All welded together. Ready to paint.
Could always add a ripper shank to this base if it doesn’t work out.

Have receiver hitches on the FEL buckets for a bale spear to move round bales. Stacking round bales in an old square bale ground level pole barn wasted a lot of space. Using a bale spear on a backhoe maybe could have got more in the barn.

Very Nice job man!

Those welds look great!

Sure looks like it fits great too in the other pics.

Whittled on a root ball. Good power and strength with the oversized ripper. Good root breaking curl. Ripper 150# + 60# for adapter. Thumb worked great. B26 handles it like a champ. Think this is going to be a success.

Mega size outrigger pads and cylinder guard steps have spoiled me on the M59. No fun if get hurt while climbing. I guess another project…

Installed my "OX Thumbs" 28" ripper today.
I really like it!
Misses boom by 1/2" when fully retracted.
Would post pictures, but cannot figure out how to do that.

Great! Sure it will be handy. Glad it can’t hit your boom.

Thank you for the try Russell,
I looked at that info, but still can't seem to make anything there work for me.
Just too much hi-tech for this old guy.
