Don’t have an answer, but a while back I got a Windows 11 upgrade notice when my techie SIL was here. He said go for it and install it.

So I made him do it…….😉

In some cases, clicking just starts the download. You probably will get a prompt later to install.

How 'bout a screen shot of it?
Hit Print Screen key, load up Paint, press CTRL V to paste in into Paint, save it to disk and then post it on this thread. Easy peazy!

I just clicked the link recently on my now “banned in CA 🤣” rig and it did the update on the next restart.

(Seriously, CA will ban high end systems if they draw too much power.)

Paying 2x more for a computer with outdated hardware and just as buggy software doesn't make these problems go away.

Ask me why I don't update my macbook software anymore after apple's update rendered my USB devices useless and simply plugging in the device caused the black screen of death...

Down in the lower right hand of your task bar (if it is on the bottom of the screen) you should have your information center. Anything pushed by MS should flag an alert there and can be installed from that point or going in to Start, Software Center, and selecting Updates. One thing you may want to do is set the system to automatically download and install updates. I set this for orvernight so I’m not bothered during the day. I’m running a Mac and a Windows based laptop and do it for both. The other thing many people miss is to go to the manufacturer website (Dell, HP, Toshiba, etc) and update your BIOS and drivers. I look for updates at least 2x a year. Don’t forget to do your router as well. Lots of security fixes and bug fixes out there.

No 'buggy' software with apple, the system is rock solid. The problems don't go away, they don't exist! :ROFLMAO:

Don't update the software? I could see that as a reason for '...black screen of death', whatever that is...

I used to build PC's for years. Once I discovered the MacBook Pro, I switched happily. I have 3 now, all working just fine(y)

Personally, I would consider the "ad" to be some kind of trojan-horse trying to get into my 'puter.

IMMEDIATELY run a security scan on your 'puter. Only after that passes, consider moving on to doing updates.

Instead of blindly clicking on popup "ads".... You would be better off going to:
  1. Start
  2. Settings
  3. Update & Security
  4. Windows Update
Then clik the button labelled [Check For Updates]

Unless you need to install a brand new program,it's unlikely you need to update the OS,the BIOS or the hardware. If your current 'configuration' is working there is usually no need to update anything, aside from AntiVirus databases. Sadly Win10 runs itself and you cannot stop the 'autoupdate' feature. I'm betting Win11 is the same.
The bigger problem is the 'new ' programs or 'aps' they come out with that you just 'have to have'.They force you into updating your Operating System, then the Motherboard BIOS,then oospy, you 'need' a new PC (the hardware) cause it won't run the new program. This is all designed to keep you buying MORE computers and programs

Fwiw, you can stop the autoupdate feature, but other programs like Turbotax will likely require an update from time to time to launch. Also, you won't know autoupdate is an issue until Microsoft gets another update wrong.

As far as Macs go, the Mac Air with at least an M1 processor is a better choice for most people. It has enough RAM, enough storage, has no fan, is lighter and several hundred dollars cheaper. The M1 is significantly faster than the older model Mac Pros with Intel processor and uses less power for longer battery life.

That being said, most people probably leave the Mac Autoupdate feature on. In my experience, Apple rarely gets their updates wrong for the Mac.
