I don't have any brakes at all on my BX2230, I've always just used the HST. According to the man I bought it from that would be enough. It has worked all these years like this but after a couple of problems, I just don't trust it anymore.

Can you give some particulars regarding the brakes? Do you have pedal pressure or does it go all the way down? Could it be that the linkage is disconnected at some point? Tell us what's going on. I suggest locating a workshop manual. Brakes on a tractor are usually pretty basic.

brake pedal goes down about 3/4 of the way. Today I went out and cleaned it off and put some paper under it to see where the leaks were so I can order seals. When I get this done I'm going to try and see if I can fix the brakes with the turnbuckles that go down the left and right frames. I'll keep you all posted on how I'm getting along.

Just worked on a friend's tractor to tighten up his brakes. Took a bit to free up the lock nut, then to free up the turnbuckles. Use penetration oil (lots of it!)...
How much brake did your friend have when you started this project? I kinda figured what you said about the turnbuckles. I can do that, if need be I can get the torch out and heat them up a little. For some other reason, my HST is leaking oil badly. I've had my HST off the frame once before, so I'll probably have to that again.
How did your friend's brakes work after you tightened up the turnbuckles?
Thanks for getting back to me I appreciate it. I've also got a 1959 Fordson Dexta diesel, I restored that belonged to my dad, have a 14-inch, plow, disc, blade, bush hog, a post hole digger, and a boom as well. After I put the info for my Kubota, I failed to mention this. And now don't know where to start if I wanted to.
Thanks again

He had some brakes but his parking brake would only hold on the 3rd click of the brake lock. (had to mash it on hard) We cranked each side 3 full turns (put a sharpie mark on it so you can count). Then backed it up the side of the hill, and was able to set the brake on the first click. ...and it held the tractor there on the hillside.

Penetrating oil and working it back and forth until it got loose was fine... I think it was dirt / grit as much as anything else... not sure heat works for that. Good luck, let us know how it turns out.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I was wondering if you took any pictures of what you did. Did you have to take the floorboard off? If you did could you put them up on the board I'd like to see them?
Thanks

I don't know your specific tractor.

This is video helps with HST braking...

Here's a PDF for a BX2200 about brakes, so it might not be exactly what you are looking for (...from what I have read, it seems like the brake pedal is only used as a parking brake!!)

Thanks for all your help, I agree with you that there is no brake like thought there should be only the Hst. I will order a new shock tomorrow. I've already been looking for the bolt that every one is talking about.
For the life of me, I can't find the bolt that everyone says is loose. I'm going to get up in the morning go out to my shop and build a fire in the woodstove set and ponder this out. That's what my Granny would say ponder. lol
Thanks for the PDF's I will use them.

Thank you again if you come up with anything else give me a holler

I'm waiting on a part called a dampener that sits under the Hst peddle the video seems to say it will help with stopping better. It might be here tomorrow. I'll let you all know how I get along as soon as I can.
