    glitter in axle gear oil

I have been using 80w-90 as well. Before I rip this thing apart, has anyone else had any glitter in their bx axle oil? I don't have any large metal fragments.

    glitter in axle gear oil

the glitter is very fine, abundant, and only seen only in sunlight. The noise is not that loud but I can hear it when I am in 4x4 through my hearing protection.

    glitter in axle gear oil

no warranty (tractor is from 2008). I did change the oil once before at about 200 hours and did it last week again when I started hearing this noise. Once I pull the axle apart and do an inspection I will update the post with findings

    glitter in axle gear oil

The tractor still works in both 2x4 and 4x4 configurations. When in 4x4 there is a whine. I now suspect the axle oil may have been low and that the metal glitter is from a disintegrating bearing. Is the front diff hard to inspect/disassemble? It looks reasonably easy to pull apart but perhaps I...

    glitter in axle gear oil

Hi, I have a bx with glitter in the gear oil from the front axle and an mild clunking in 4x4 (could be u-joint?). No odd noise in 4x2. How would one trouble shoot this? Are metal bits in the axle oil common? front axle oil changed at 200 hrs by me and replaced with 90w thanks

    MMM Height Knob Sticker

The sticker came off my MMM height control knob during a HST fan replacement (what a joy that was). The old knob cracked and I have procured a new knob but I don't see the part number listed for the sticker that sits on top of the knob for a bx1860. Is the sticker (shows 1-4 and top)...

bx8160 hst fan via drive shaft method

Re: bx1860 hst fan via drive shaft method I had to take off the fenders, foot board, and pull the engine out about 3-4 inches. No way to cheat this on an bx1860 that I could figure out.

Trick to remove drive shaft - bx1860 shaft keeps spinning

Hi, New to driveshafts - is there a trick to remove the main driveshaft on a BX1860? It keeps cranking the engine when I try to spin off the three bolts. I got two off but the last one is a PIA. thanks

bx8160 hst fan via drive shaft method

bx1860 hst fan via drive shaft method A stick just got past my aftermarket skid plate and totaled my HST fan. Has anyone done the HST fan on an 1860 via the drive shaft removal method? I have seen it done on bx2x series but I think they are longer tractors (which might not matter). Trying...

bx2750 Snow Blower Modified for Rear Use?

I have a bx2750 blower for my 1870. I also have a front blade. Ideally I would have a rear pto blower and front blade. Is there any hope of modifying the bx2750 blower to use on the rear 3pt/pto? Right off the bat I noticed that the PTO spline seems smaller on the blower. Is this idea crazy?

Hydrolic Screech, weak bucket, bucket drift

Hi, My bx1860 recently developed a screech and bucket drift. The 3pt and bucket both have a new load hydraulic screech (almost like the sound of two metals plates grinding against each other) when under load. For the 3pt this sound only happens when its topped out. For the bucket this happens...

    Add a quite muffler / exhaust? BX1860

Hi, Has anyone ever added an secondary muffler setup to their bx (mine is a 1860) to make it quieter? Even with ear protection, at WOT the thing is loud. I also sometimes use it to power a PTO generator and would like it to be as quite as possible. I have been thinking about using a $30 walker...

    bx1860 front tire chains

I wound up using a pair of brotec 1.25" wheel spacers to allow the front chains to clear. Otherwise there was no way to make chains work without any rubbing. They are a vast improvement for steering the tractor when plowing heavy snow - even with the blade in the float position.

    bx1860 front tire chains

thanks for the reply grouse feathers - I have had good success with the slight lift method but part of what I have to plow is seriously off camber and I have to push snow across the angle. Its really hard to keep the tractor on course. Its hard to image that anything but chains/cables will...

    bx1860 front tire chains

I would like to put chains on the front of the bx1860 to help with steering while plowing snow (its cold and icy in central vermont). Has anyone found chains that fit the small front wheels with their limited clearance on the tie rod ends? thanks

    Direction change HST

Hi, I am new (<1 year) to bx operation and have a question. I mow and plow with my 1860 and I sometimes use the forward and reverse pedals to change direction without using the brake pedal. Is this bad? Should the tractor be completely stopped with the brake pedal before changing direction...
