What size bucket do you have on your MX Tractor with BH92 Backhoe?

I'm finally (after over 12 months of waiting) getting my BH92 backhoe in a couple of weeks. I'll be running it on an MX5800. I'm going to get a 12" trenching bucket. I'd like to get a bigger bucket for digging holes, but I'm not sure what size to get. 24"? 30"? I'm mostly curious what others out there have, what type of soil you have, and whether you're happy with that combination. We are mostly clay around here with a lot of large rocks.

I have an 18” toothed bucket and 16” trench bucket. Both work great in my clay. A 12” may have trouble with clay sticking IMO. A 24” toothed bucket would probably be fine for your soil. I think a 30” toothed bucket would be too much.

Good day. Congratulations on a long wait being over! I ordered my machine (MX6000) and BH back in early 2021 before world went completely bat shit crazy. I had a wait of about 6 months on the BH92. I believe I have an 18” bucket. I have not used it too much but when I have it has exceeded my expectations. At my residence we have a sandy clay filled with rocks. At our place up North it has sort of a split on the soil…some is a clay like chocolate peanut butter ice cream (dense when wet and greasy…like a brick when dry) and then there also some pockets of silty/sandy loam…greasy when wet. Anyway with a smallish bucket like mine the BH has not struggled yet…it’s way more capable than me . It’s easy on / off. After doing a couple times it’s pretty simple and quick. The link arms are a little awkward at first but one person can do with a little practice and if you have a second set of hands it’s a cinch. That was important for me to be able to take on and off easily as I wanted to be able to switch between rear cutter, rear blade, tiller and a 3 pt hitch/receiver. Once you can eyeball have the correct link arm for the side trying to install and just do once it’s easier than Trial and error to pick the correct link arm…2 or 3 times and it will be second nature. It works great as ballast and be aware that it will help fill your trailer up. They may be dated and not your exact machine, but Here are a couple videos that I found helpful

A 24" toothed bucket should work for you, 30" is too big.
If you get a 12" bucket for use in clay, you will quickly learn to hate it.
Get the 16" bucket instead of the 12".
The 12" will plug itself up VERY rapidly!

I have an 18" and 36" buckets for my BH 92. We have sandy soil here but it still challenges the 36" one. I use it for digging burn pits and the occasional drain field. I've learned that if you keep the 36" at 3/4 full it works fine. The 18" works fine for everything, I use it most of the time.

12, 16-18, 24 wouldn't get bigger than 24 for material removal. Little much in challenging soil/rock. If only one id get a 18”.
