I may purchase an L285 from a man who had a 6' bush hog on it and who reports that the front end felt a little light with this size implement on it.

Are there guidelines for the appropriate weight for 3-point implements with the L285? (I want to put on a 5' bush hog and a 5 or 6 foot finish mower). The tractor does not have a FEL or other front counterweight.

Can anyone recommend specific brands and models?

Thanks.

I'd strongly reccomend counter weights on the front end of any tractor that does not have a loader on it. With the proper amount of weight up front there's no reason why that L285 should not handle the 6 foot bush hog. And there are many many excellent after market companies that make bush hogs and finishing mowers. Check into Woods, Bush hog, Landpride, and King Kutter.

Most Cat 1 3PH implements will work with no problems. I put about 240lbs on the front of my L3200, to make it steer OK when mowing (60" bush hog) with the FEL removed. If you feel wealthy you can get suitcase weights from Kubota. Or you can visit your friendly steel supply, and see what he has in his scrap bin, or buy a nice piece of flat bar and make something on your own.
