I have a 3540 but think I need/want a companion for it. I have 40 acres I gradually taking back and expanding(150 acres in all).
I was thinking a MX5200 but I'm not sure the difference in the larger tractor lines. Mowing, brush cutting, clearing, plowing etc...
Will have to have a loader.
Any ideas, recommendations, experience appreciated....

If I was looking for a companion to the 3540 with that much acreage, I'd b looking at an M Series 6060 or 7060 with hydraulic shuttle.

I concur with the above statement. If you are planning to work the ground aka tillage planting, you may want to go with a M5 or M6 series.

The MX series is a great setup but in all reality, it's a glorified L4701.

Well there will be a budget and that's more than I wanted to spend but if it's what I need it's what I need.
Any idea on ballpark new price with loader. I'm in East TN and know every area prices different...

No doubt the MX5800 is a nice machine, but it's really just an old Grand L design and not a whole lot bigger than the L3540. Yes the M Series will cost more, but very close to the bigger Grand Ls. If cost is a big consideration, look at the economy M5660SUHD.

To really appreciate the difference you will need to go drive them.

I am not saying go with an M, that would be my choice, but situations vary and only you can know for sure.

Think I want a cab so the M6060 is looking like the one...

No doubt the M6060 is a nice tractor and "bigger isn't always better", but you might want to consider the M7060 as you can get the 12/12 as well as limited slip differential.

On either, I would try to get the bigger tires than stock.

Not saying the M6060 isn't the better choice, just a thought.

Go look at them in person. When you get to the tractor that you think ("this is just a bit to big") that's the one to get.

It will shrink the first week that you have it at home. Not sure how that happens, some sort of miracle I think, but it seems to happen to 99.9% of us.

I know that when I bought my 75HP tractor, I thought that it was plenty big. Didn't take long before I realized that I should have bought something in the 100HP range. Would not have been able to afford that though, so it didn't really make any difference. :(

Ranch said it....you will get it home and it will look tiny in your fields. Mine is sitting in a 7 acre field and looks very tiny L4060HSTC. Love my cab...it's worth every penny. I priced a M7060 12 with shuttle with the loader for around 40k

After the advice I went and looked in person. I like the MX5800 but it seems so plain after having my 3540.
Hoping to keep my current tractor and add another.
I think I am leaning toward a 6060 but main reason is for a cab. I can see that being a huge asset. Now to come up with the difference in
$$.
Oh and on another thread someone suggested the 7070 for superior trans etc.
Dang more $$.
I haven't priced those, how much more is the 7070 then 6060 in general?
