I appreciate all of the advice, it is well taken.
But I think I have an approach I can live with.
I originally bought my enclosed cargo trailer to haul tools.
I had (still have) handyman work at a farm and so much of that required more than my Ford Ranger could carry easily. The cargo trailer came in handy for hauling all the tools, scaffolding and whatever I needed.
But things change and the work I do there is diminishing and at my age I don't plan to look for more things to do. I'm pretty sure I will sell the trailer if I don't use it at least once by the end of the year.
So now I am looking for something to easily haul some longer lumber, maybe a bit of mulch, dirt or even some gravel....keep in mind I say "a little bit"
I'm not going to use it as a work trailer, just something as a homeowner I can use occasionally.
That being said....I think I will purchase a single axle for now. Minimal use but enough capacity for what I actually need to haul. But I am not opposed to a 7K tandem axle trailer. Two things are making me think twice about that purchase. One is the width. I do not need a trailer that is 102" wide. Roads around here are narrow and negotiating a trailer 20" wider than my vehicle is something I don't want to do.
Should my needs change.....I will get a larger trailer. But I'm not there yet.
Thanks again for all the advice.
