Most implements are designed to run at 540 rpm and do well at that speed. If you have a 1000 rpm PTO you can use it, but slow down the tractor RPM to account for the difference.
I assume you have a 2 or 3 speed PTO. When the snow is light it is nice to be able to slow down the engine and still get the same throw of the snow. When the snow is heavier, I'd shift back to 540, and speed up the engine again.

I do that with my chipper sometimes. If it's small stuff I'll use the 1000rpm gear but run slower engine rpm.

I run my blower just like gpreuss says to do it, and it works great!

To my way of thinking , while the blower might work and really blow snow really far, the unit was designed to run on the 540 PTO. It might never have a problem but then again the bushings bearings and chain and assorted little goodies may just self destruct cause there's lots of little parts goin around really fast in there.. for my money it just sounds like bad JUJU

I have a B7100. I run my rear snowblower on the second speed (780 rpm) all the time. Run tractor wide open to get max power. I have done it this way for years with no ill effects. I don't quite know what to say: if I only had your option of going up in rpm to 1000. That might be to fast.
