The manual for my Kubota ZD323 states that "CJ-4 engine oil" ... "cannot be used on this machine". It also states that API Class CI-4 oil can be used. The oil that I purchased for my oil change states on the jug that it meets API Class CI-4 and CJ-4, among others. So, will this oil be acceptable to use or not?

I also own a ZD323 purchased in 2009. My opinion, the owners manual is outdated and does not reflect that the newer CK-4 standard oils are backward compatible with older non emissions compliant diesel engines. You should be fine.

It does not reflect the fact that ULSD (500ppm) diesel fuel is now the only thing sold. The issue with CJ4 vs CI4 was high sulfur (1500 ppm) fuels which are no longer available in the US.
