I recently discovered small plastic fan blades in the yard and learned they were from the transmission fan. Dealer advised not to use the tractor. The tractor is now living with the dealer(3 wks). I am advised that brackets on the drive linkage failed forcing the fan into the trans housing. Dealer has lifted the deck and I am advised they must pull the engine in order to complete the repair. I am also told this is not the result of anything I did or didn't do. The unit has over 400 hrs. on it. Has anyone had a similar experience? :(

Agree with respect to searching this Forum.

A poster here came up with and describes with photos a nifty method to more-easily replace the fans.

Do a thorough search by tractor model number and buzz words related to 'fan', 'transmission fan', 'fan blades', 'hydraulic fan': you'll turn somehing up fast.

Please post back how you proceed so we may all learn.

If the tractor has been to the dealer for 3 weeks, it is probably a moot point now. He is probably stuck with the cost of pulling the engine to replace the fan.
It is common for debris to get caught underneath and damage the fan, but I haven't heard about driveline movement causing it. Hopefully because it wasn't user-error, they will give you a break.
