I recently purchased a Kubota third function kit for our M4-071D. I am installing this myself. We have a M7060 which already has a third function which was installed about 5 years ago.
The kit for the M4 has an extra component, an accumulator, which is not part of the kit on our M7060. The LA1154 loaders are the same as far as I can tell although separated by about six years.
Q - Can anyone tell me why Kubota added an accumulator to the set up and what it’s for?
Thanks

I don't know the reason for the accumulator but the third functions come in two diffeerent designs - one with the accumulator and one with out. I suspect its related to other loader options like self leveling or hydraulic SSQA. I am sure someone with real knowledge will weigh in shortly and I will be interested in the answer.

Edit: Whoops! I see someone has already said its part of the soft ride option

This is not part of the ksr system for the soft ride on the loader? If so, not all parts are there.
It’s not, it came with the third function valve kit. It’s even referenced in the loader installation/assembly manual

I will try to provide a few noteworthy pages. I have hard copy not .pdf
Thanks to all for any help
Does not help me any - maybe somebody else can explain it. Basically just where to hook some hoses.

The section title is "Independent Circuit Type" which sounds interesting but there is no further explanation of what that means.

it also references a pump line and a pilot line??? Presumably the pump line is exactly that and the pilot line is a control signal but how that works is a mystery. The WSM for the loader might shed some light on how these circuits operate.

Out of curiosity I pulled out the FEL manual from my 7060 … that FEL was model LA1154, but the FEL for the M4-071D is model LA1154A/EA. So I guess there is a difference, but what that entails is unknown. Still can’t understand the need for the accumulator in this application.

Probably something to do with that "Independent Circuit" reference. Is that mentioned in your WSM?

I can't speak specifically to this application; normally an accumulator is used to make pressure build faster and shorten "recovery" time.
It's possible Kubota felt adding the 3rd function slowed down the system enough it was necessary?

Thank you, that makes a lot of sense. The M4 is a very hydraulic hungry tractor. So much that is has a higher flow pump than a regular M7060. Even so any time you move the loader you feel it in the drive train. Again, thanks
