Is there a grease fitting for the differential lock. I have been pulling it back up by hand ?

Couple things there from experience. :( Check your service manual to see if there is an internal spring. There is a remote chance it is worn or damaged. The manual may have some trouble shooting fixes for this issue.

Depending on your tractor (let us know what model so others can look in on this as well) spray the linkage and the entrance to the housing with good penetrating solvent/oil work the pedal repeatedly by hand with the tractor off and in neutral. I had to actually use vise grips at the housing AND get real aggressive  working that penetrant in. Mine was stuck tight. If and when you get it broke loose so the linkage works appropriately make sure to keep it oiled well. Mine worked like a champ after the treatment.
