I have a L175. :) It has loose steering. I remember, on old Chevy trucks, you could adjust the lash out of the manual steering box. Does Kubota have that, or must I replace the worm gear?

Steering issues on these is often caused by water. There's a small hole at the bottom of the column just above the steering box - if that is plugged and water comes out when you clear it, you may need a new steering box.

Go to this site and download a free workshop manual (WSM) for your tractor.

http://kubotabooks.com/AutoIndex/in...s/&AutoIndex=eb063adb9458ce3d6ff717865565cb8f

Go to page 6 for a description of the steering system and its adjustments.
It is a recirculating ball type which means that ball bearings mate the two main parts together.

Youtube has some good videos describing how these systems work.
Here are two:

I recall an earlier owner describing how he rebuilt his recirculating ball steering gear using new bearings.

You are driving a tractor a low to moderate speeds. Unless you do a lot of road traveling, you likely can get your steering box to an acceptable level of play.

If you have to disassemble the box, general bearing supply places can likely match ball bearings and seals. The shims mentioned may require a dealer to obtain unless you are very creative.

Saw a buddy disassemble his Iseki tractor's steering box. Same problem, water. Do ALL tractors suffer from this?

Got a repair manual from Ebay, cheep. No part numbers, but a lot of good tips. Definitely written for farmer in barn repair, not a shop manual for a pro.

I'll check out your links, thanks.

I'm a home shop machinist. If I can't find it, I'll make it. Shims and specialty washers, no problem. I'm currently building a box blade from plans downloaded from Ebay. Item #302203939592
