My first tractor was an L3540 HST that I bought 13 years ago.

I watched this video and thought about what I need this for.

I decided to try it. When mowing grass I am on cruse control. I have it at 6 MPH. When I hit heavy grass, it may slow down to 3 ½ MPH but it only loses 200 RPM.

If you have Hydro dual speed turned on it slows down too much.

Sounds like it is working as intended.

I experimented with Stall Guard while mowing with my L6060 but determined that I was better at controling engine load and speed that Stall Guard was and discontinued use.

When getting into heavy grass, stall guard would reduce ground speed to control load, sometimes to zero in very heavy conditions. It would also cause the tractor to buck or jerk as the load changed suddenly, e.g., mower discharges large load of debris, quickly reducing load, etc.

I expect that it would have been more effective while mowing relatively level areas with relatively constant PTO load, expecially if using cruise control but most of my parcels are not so regular and I never use cruise control while mowing.

Good post. I think that’s the best practical explanation of those features I’ve ever seen, and while I do see many of Neil’s videos, I hadn’t seen that one.

Obviously, my economy grade tractor has none of those features, so I suppose my interest is mostly voyeuristic; wondering what I’m missing. Now I know.

While I can see their utility for long sessions of loader work, for my purposes I’m not jealous for any of those features. Still, it’s amazing the performance capabilities of some of these relatively small machines.
