time to sharpen blades on my rotary cutter a Land Pride RCR 1660. Looking at the closest owners manual I can find a RCR 1860, it says to replace the locknut used to hold the blade on and to torque the nut to 450 ft/pounds.

I checked my 1/2" torque wrench last night and it only goes to 150 ft/pounds.

Anyone know if the 450 ft/pounds correct for my mower and how the heck do I get that high? Even looking at 3/4" torque wrenches they don't go that high (least the ones I can afford). So what am I missing on getting the torque that high?

You get a torque multiplier from northern tool and adapt your tools to the drive size on input and output sides. You may be able to rent a multiplier instead of buying.

Others use electric or pneumatic impact wrenches

I sharpen by tilting the mower up to give access and brace it there. I use a smaller model angle grinder to sharpen blades without removing them.

I don't have a landpride but they're basically all the same as far as blades and blade bolts go. I had to cut one of my blade bolts off the first time I took them off and I got two replacements from Tractor Supply with a lock washer. I just tighten them down with a 3/4 impact.

Before I decided to cut that bolt off I sharpened the blades still attached and that was just horrible, I'll never do that again. I decided that no matter what it took I was getting those blades off from then on. Much easier to remove and put them in a vise to sharpen.

We have about six or seven rotary cutters from 4'-10' and sharpen them all on the cutter. We only remove to replace.
