I used to hand turn the prop on a floatplane to start the engine....
All 4 of my '67 stangs had section of 5by5 billets in the well behind the rear wheels, never got stuck in the snow...

Perhaps many here would also think that landing airplanes on a boat is not safe.
I did wear a full shoulder harness though.
It certainly is NOT ”safe”.…. and I truly appreciate the aviators who do that.
I’ve not done it myself… but I’ve known some of ‘em and participated first-hand the training program.

(You haven’t lived until you’ve caught a wire on a carrier at night…while sitting in back and someone has your life in their hands.) 🤢
