Must admit, as a forester I know quite a bit about trees, but not so much about shrubs.

Tough winter here, and deer picked some of our Rhododendrens clean. Don't remember them going for those before.

They still have flower buds and leaves up high, but are picked clean where they could reach.

Will these come back, and fill in at the bottom?

This is a coincidence ;) wife came home with one earlier today. Also bought a camellia, a couple encore azaleas and a few other things to. She's gone back for another rhododendron and azalea. Trying to get color by the back deck, with out having to do a lot.

How do you take care of the rhododendron?

Rhodys are pretty hardy, especially in their native location which is just at the edge of woods where there is partial shade. It looks like your location is more open and also will get reflected light off the white siding. Give it some Miracle Grow, it should come back.

Thanks for the help.:):)

Ironically, this is wide open for summer sun, but they do well. One on the south side of the porch is about 15' tall. Folks often comment on them, but I've pretty much let them do their own thing, and seldom cut them back.

Mine seem to come back every year even with the deer pruning them though it sometimes 2 or 3 years to get the lower coverage back toss a hand full of Al sulfate around to sour up the ground a bit and you should be good to go and yeah miracle grow or some 10=10=10

Should come back if the bare trunk, limbs get some light. They're hard to grow down here, but I've hybridized some that our heat can't kill unless you try like I seem to do. :D I'd use an acid fertilizer formulated for rhodies, azaleas and camellias. Aluminum sulfate can be very toxic to rhododendrons.
