So just as the title says, had anyone ever replaced a bx 80 series transmission with a transmission from a 50 series machine. They look identical but the trans case part numbers are slightly different. Advice needed. Thanks.

You might want to look again, they are very different.
The reason I thought they were similar is because the parts that attach to the case itself are the same parts that go into the 80 series trans. Is it different physically and not swap in? I see that your a Kubota tech so I very much value your opinion. Thanks.

you can do a 'split screen compare', open two 'parts finders', one for BX2380 other for BX2350 and go page by page, checking the parts and numbers. yes a rather tedious process but best(?) way to know for sure.

Yes, the case numbers were the most obvious. Just sucks as I found a good used trans but it was out of a 2350.

There is a member here (@Mountainman) that has a salvage yard (in Alabama?) that may be able to provide you with the part or assembly you need.

Contact him at his website https://mossycreekoutdoors.com/
Yes, I have spoken to him. He seems like a really good, sincere guy. He has the 2350 trans that I am posting about. He says that it will work but whitetiger says that it won't. I just don't want to ship something across the country and not have it work. I am having the dealership install it as this type of thing is out of my wheelhouse. I just need some good advice. I let him know this morning that I wouldn't be purchasing the trans. It's only because I can't get a consistent answer. The dealership doesn't know, just that the case numbers are not interchangeable. So for now, I'm back to square one.

YIKES !!! Hate to ask how that happened....but curious, like my cat.
I assume BX2380, BX2370, BX2360, BX23S share the same transmission ? If so..that should expand the possible 'donor list' Sure hate to see the cost for a complete tranny but... maybe yours is repairable ,of you can find 'economical parts ??

I have been in contact with Mountainman. He has had customers replace 80-series trans-axle assemblies with 70-series assemblies, so this 50 series should work.
I have never had an 80 series next to a 70 series or earlier model and compared them side-by-side.
I know there are several differences, but that does not mean it will not work. If he has had others swap them, it should work.

I have not tried to swap them myself, and was basing my comment on the fact that there are several visual differences. I had never considered swapping them. I was wrong once before, also!!

I would like to know if the OP has any idea what caused that catastrophic failure.
I own and use a BX 25 and a BX 2370.
I would like to know what caused that failure (if the reason is known) so I don't repeat it.
I'm guessing here, but it appears to be 540 PTO related.
I do run a four foot rotary brush cutter behind my BX 25 and I am extremely cautious doing so.

Most common cause is pto shafts get shoved up into the housing. Pto shafts too long is most common but have heard other reasons like one of the lower arm pins came out and disconnected from the implement.
