Removing shoes from snowblower

I have a paved driveway that I clear with a front mount blower. I find that even with the shoes set to their lowest height that it leaves a very slight covering of snow that freezes on top of the cold asphalt within a day.

I am considering just removing the shoes from the snowblower so it can scrape all of the snow without leaving that thin coat. Has anyone done this? Does it reduce the life of the snowblower or wear down the bucket? Did it scrape up your pavement?

As long as there is a replaceable wear edge on the blower I'd say go for it.

I run my front mount blower without shoes. It does a good job of cleaning down to the tar. Next year I might need to put a new cutting edge on. Not a big job or very costly.

It will wear the cutter bar on the bottom of the blower. I have a L2190 and have replaced it a couple of times. Cost of the bar is around $100. You will get a tighter removal of snow. Sounds like you may want to consider a drag blade if you want it really tight.
