Removing rear guard on 1860 landpride cutter

Been toying with removing the bolt on rear guard on my 1860 cutter. I have several acres of bahia grass to cut and it bogs down the tractor. Thoughts?

How is the cutter adjusted? Front should be lower than rear. It might help, might not. That is some stringy grass.

Its about 1.5 inches higher at the back vs the front. I removed the guard yesterday and it cuts much better in thick grass than with the guard. The next step is maybe a spare set of blades. One sharpened like a mower blade and one for bushes
