I've got an old Howse brush deck that is in need of repair. The welds broke free on the front an the deck bent on the front right. I'm going to cut everything apart and make a new deck out of 3/16" steel, original deck is .090" My question is what's the major difference between the square backs and round backs like the Brush Hog brand and the Rhinos. In the Agri supply catalog all they have is the square backs. If I go with the round back I'm going to copy the Brush Hog as close as possible.

Any tips or hints are appreciated.

Im guessing you will be stripping it down to the bones , make sure gearbox mounts arent cracked and three point mounting areas are still intact. I dont think the shape of deck is relevant to performance when it comes to a brush mower,my preferece is a rear type discharge.

Dont forget to snap a few pictures to document your progress.

The only parts I'm reusing are the tail wheel mount, gear box, blade holder and portions of the three point hookup. I've got a couple pictures but I need to get them off the phone and onto the computer.

If you are going that far, check the splines on the center of the blade holder, and the keyways, where the pins go into the blade holder. I did more or less the same project, as you are doing, when I made my front mounted BH for my rubbertrack loader. Only thing I didn't check was them keyways, guess what was bad? Good news, is that agrisupply.com has complete stumpjumper blade holders for around $100, at least a coupla years ago...:D
