hi, looking for suggestions on removing the rear tires, I have the big wide turf style on the rear. I was able to loosen all the lug nuts , but cannot free the wheel away from the hub. even with all lug nuts removed. any ideas I could try, thanks JG
Not familiar with that tractor, but I have struggles getting wheels off my
Toyota tundra. Had to pry it off using tools that have a hook in the end that can serve as a pry bar. I guess I would call them tapered pins with a hook end. You can get them all the way from 6" long to 2 feet long.
They are round and look like this. You can pound on the opposite side from the hook and then pry.
Another technique is to put nuts back on with no thread exposed and pound on that nut-stud to shake it loose. Can cause damage and push stud out of the hub however.
Another is take a torch and heat the wheel at the stuck joint, but again do it carefully.
Another is put nuts back on an leave loose. Then drive the tractor on side hill.
thanks for the tips. I went out to the shop, put the lug nuts on loose, and let the tractor slowly down to the ground , and it was enough to brake the wheel free from the hub. no rust, but just a very solid fit. maybe i should smear some anti freeze around the hub when i reinstall wheels? thanks again. JG
Glad it worked. Stuck stuff in a position like that can be very troublesome, but one other technique might have been used, if you can see the hub. With a solid chunk of steel rod or similar and a large hammer. You got it. The term "get a bigger hammer" solves a lot of stuff.
