I have a BX2380 with a buamalight stump grinder attachment. yesterday I was grinding a stump and lost power to my pto and lifted and disengaged the grinder idled down and reengaged the pto it had no power and all fluid drained out of the rear of the pto. Spoke with the dealer and they are stating that this is possibly not covered under warranty. my tractor has only 20 hours with 4 to 5 hours using the rear pto. has anyone had an issue with this?

Thanks for the info

Gary

I guess it depends on what parts failed on the PTO and why they failed. Nobody honours warranty if they determine that the product was abused.

Which grinder do you have? What hp does the grinder require?

Did you finance the tractor, if so the insurance from Kubota will cover it with the deductible payment.

I do not know how he can say it is not covered by the warranty without looking at the tractor.

Do not try to drive the tractor until it is repair. You may cause more damage.

I do not intend to sound like a smart ass but did you size the PTO shaft to your set up? If the shaft was too long there may have been a "jump" of the grinder that forced the PTO shaft into the back of the tractor.

^^^I'm thinking your PTO shaft on the Baumalight was too long and it jammed your tractor PTO shaft into the rear axle housing.

You say oil drained out of the PTO. What do you mean did it leak out around the PTO shaft at the back of the tractor.
The casing broke

I cut down the pto shaft to the correct length. Measured the distance from the locking Grove and subtracted 1 inch and cut off both sides.

Did you measure the length for the shaft with the 3 point hitch lifted all the way up or with the grinder sitting on the floor? The raised distance will be shorter.

I am not trying to insult you. Rather trying to figure out what happened.

I trim the length of my PTO shafts to allow it to be disconnected or connected to the tractor at any point in the travel of the 3 point hitch. This will eliminate any possibility of damage due to the shaft being too long.

Yes I did. I measured several times to find the shortest point and that is what I cut it to.

@gfox35 did you ever find out a cause to this? I have a BX 2680 and purchased the Baumalight 1P24 Stump Grinder and it had a tag on it to read the instructions about needing an extension kit for certain tractor models. I took the measurement the instructions states and it was 20 inches. The instructions state anything less than 20 inches will require the extension kit. I'm waiting to hear back from Baumalight, but I'm wondering if not using it would cause the same issue you experienced. It seems like it just bumps the unit out a few more inches from the tractor and maybe that is more for correcting angles on the PTO shaft than the actual length. At this point I'm just speculating. I'm also wondering if using a quick hitch would suffice. I'd rather put the money towards a quick hitch than a single attachment extension kit as long as the extension kit isn't providing some angle correction.

UPDATE: Baumalight said the extension kit is required for my BX2680... now to figure out how much that costs.

How much does the extension move the unit back? Buying a quick hitch or Pat's would move it back 3 - 4 inches.

They could never give me an exact reason for the failure but I ended up taking the grinder and pto to the dealership and they checked everything out and stated the it was the way they would have hooked it up. Kabota declined warranty because grinder was not approved by their engineers. Good news is the dealer ate the repair and traded me into a new l2501 with a hydraulic top link which is more suitable for the grinder and heavier. Works well very happy with the new tractor.
