Make sure you drain gear oil first. Some have plug on bottom others you will have to remove the whole top and extract the oil out. Depending if it’s the input or output seal? obviously makes a huge difference in what needs to be removedhow to change the seals in the gear box
If you doing both remove pto and then remove blades and blade carrier underneath, then the gearbox you can take to your bench to work on, much easier than trying to do the output shaft underneath the mower and safer tooMake sure you drain gear oil first. . I have never seen a rotary cutter gearbox where that needs to happen but who knows. If that is the case then yes you would have to slip new seal over the inner part of the output shaftonce removed, then reinstall the shaft, then try to tap new seal back in. I hope not for your sake. A little tip once you get old seals out run a really fine grit sandpaper over where the seal sits. If there is any paint or rust it will make new seal installation a bit easier.thank you but do I have to disassemble the gear box to replace the output seal?
The seal guard looks to be smaller than the splines?
