I am trying to service my slip clutch on my cutter but after removing the retaining bolt I can not remove the PTO shaft. I have a good 1"-2" of play but can not go any further. Not sure if their is a retaining ring or not because the poorly designed plastic cover is in the way. Does anyone know what is holding the shaft on?

Turn the shaft about 90 degrees so you can see the implement shaft through the opening in the yoke. Push the shaft towards the implement and then you should see a clip in a groove at the end of the shaft (about a quarter inch from the end of the shaft)

You should be able to grab one ear of the circlip with a pliers and pull it out of the groove. Then just get it off of the shaft and pull the clutch off the end of the shaft.

That clip holds the shaft on if the bolt get sheared or loose and falls out. Be sure to install it back

OK. Will take a look and try to pull the clip. Will send a photo of what I see. Thanks - Dave

Right as rain. The c-clip was covered with grease and dirt.

My Land Pride RCR1860 did not have a C clip. After I got the bolt out I had to apply solvent and wiggle it back and forth and drive the clutch assembly rearward with a 1" pipe and 3lb hammer. Finally got it free enough to go forward and off the implement shaft. I'm putting Easy PTO connectors on the shafts on the rotary cutter and the rear finish mower, FDR1672 as well as the output shaft from the L2501. I am completely disassembling both PTO shafts for the first time. De-greaser and power wash then greasing the inner shaft and the universal joints. The UV joints have seen the grease gun but not the half shaft. It was stiff to collapse and expand exasperating the connection dance with the tractor. Sometimes I could get a shaft connected in 20 seconds and sometimes 45 minutes with sweat in my eyes before getting someone to push while I collapsed the snap collar. I'll be slipping the clutch for the first time since the factory, if the dealer didn't bother doing it. They didn't fill the front axle so I doubt the would slip the clutch.
