Just purchased a R 400 loader. Is a sweetheart of a machine and my bride is starting to like it better, so life is good here. Parts book came with the machine and I am looking for service book. It has 5 speeds forward and 2 speeds other way -- I am a bit puzzled by the way it shifts from 2nd to 3rd.
Forward motion stops and then it jumps forward when 3rd engages. Anybody have experience with these loaders? All info welcome!!
Thanks !!!!

Little resurch and I find out you have a one off tranny design that has a few issues.
That model has 2 sets of clutch packs and it sounds like your having a modulator problem when it shifts from one pack to the other.
How are the brakes? The reason I ask is that it uses one clutch pack as brakes as well.

A WSM (Work Shop Manual) would help you a ton as most have trouble shooting guides in them as well.

Here is a write up on some of the issues.

It also looks like the WSM is very hard to get, here is one and it isn't cheap!

Thanks for the info Wolfman. Its got good brakes. I read thru all the trans posts - wondering if I should have bought this thing now! Kind of luck I have, it will drop dead in its tracks just when I need it most. Thanks again.

Wolfman, thanks for the info. Brakes and clutch seem to work very well. I read all the trans. posts - ain't so sure I should have bought this thing now. Sounds like I should fork out the coins for a work shop manual. Will pull the trans filter and have a look see at it just for insurance sake. Thanks again
