Had some time today to build a set of forks from some 2 x 4 x .250 wall rectangular tube. They are 5 feet long and are held in place using 3K lb. break strength ratchet straps from Harbor Freight.
Steel was less than $90 and that included cutting two 5 foot and two 6 inch lengths and the straps were $5.99, so for right at $100 bucks I have a set of pallet forks:)

Looks like a good start, but I would encourage you to ditch the straps and add some means of clamping them to the bucket as far rearward as possible. Even with clamps, it doesn't take much of a side load to get them to rotate out of square. Yours being exceptionally long will make this a challenge.
