Another dumb question. I'm planning on using the FEL if the snow gets high this year. Since I don't have float capability with the valves on the tractor now, I'm looking to replace them. If I get a set with 1 float valve and 1 non-float valve, which operation should get the float? Should I put it on the bucket curl or the lift? Any advantage to having both float?

Thanks,
Tom

You do not want float on the curl!
You only want float on the lift.

Some of the newer valves have an auto dump feature, I wouldn't recommend that either as the loader wasn't designed for that.

My M7040 with FEL has a float position for the loader arms. It is only useful when back blading ground or gravel. If you try and push with the FEL in the float position the loader arms just lift up and you cannot control what is going on.

I would have thought that I needed the arms to float to follow the somewhat uneven paved surface of my driveway when removing snow. I would think that with the bucket curled slightly down to scoop snow it would not ride up but would follow the surface if the arms are free to float. No?

I dont see why not. I would float when I would smooth the stone in my driveway. Never was an issue

I use float on my paved driveway to clear snow and it is really a nesessity. The only time the arms push up is when you are pushing a big load and at that point you wouldn't be on float anyway. I lock it in position and go into bulldozer mode:D
