I just picked up a non-Kubota 3 point hitch spreader for sand/salt for winter driveways.

It has the 6 splines just like my PTO does.

Does anyone know of a PTO shaft with splines but ALSO a breakout/sheer pin?

I fear my sand/salt mixture might freeze and the spreader gear NOT turning and I end up twisting my pto shaft or worse the tractor pto.

Thanks

You can buy just an 'overrun clutch' or 'breakaway' unit. They add 3-4" to PTO, usually not a problem but check clerances !

Hmm..the PTO spreader doesn't have a 'builtin' unit ?

I have a spreader/seeder I rigged up that was originally on an old Allis. I made it a 3 pt. It holds 150# of fertilizer I know, and I use a radiator hose with a radiator clamp on both ends. That's my safety mechanism. I have about $10 in the whole setup, so it's nothing fancy, just works! I've been using it for years.

I think my Rhino tiller has a splined shaft at the tiller end. There is a shear bolt installed on the yoke at the tiller. It is arranged with bearings between the two parts of the yoke with tabs that stick radially outward. The shear bolt goes through the tabs and bolt the halves together

Hopefully that makes sense.
