My 2018 MX5200 with 435 hours on it has a PTO problem. Yesterday I was using the flail mower as usual when I hit a small mound of dirt. I have hit much worse many times without issue. The flail is belt driven (2 v belts) and no slip clutch or shear bolt. The PTO stopped working and I couldn’t engage it while the tractor was running. Once I turned the tractor off and let it sit awhile the PTO would work for 5 or 10 minutes before cutting out again. I have been through this 3 or 4 times. I checked the seat switch which seems to be functioning properly. I checked the PTO by hand and it turns fine and has the usual stops on rotation. I did note that the PTO is easier to turn by hand than before. Any ideas what could be wrong?

So it turns moisture got into the PTO switch. No codes were thrown. A friend help track that down. I removed the switch and dried it out and used contact cleaner.
it is working and I am very happy that we don’t have to split the tractor.

Glad it worked out for you!

It seems very odd that the switch gave you problems just as you hit that mound, but luckily it was just a coincidence and a relatively simple fix.

Thanks for the update too. Its always nice to hear how issues get resolved.
