PTO drive to slasher stop working

Hi all, i'm new here so be kind, know very little about this sort of thing. its my brothers machine that hes just picked and was slashing and it just stoped. no noises, no bangs, just stoped.
where do we start, its a B7100, I think?
little 4wd job about an 1981 model.

On these little tractors they came with a 3 speed PTO, sometimes if your running the wrong impliment in the wrong pto gear it will jump out of gear and shut off. First gear on the pto is the standard 540 rpm pto speed for everthing.

G'day mate, I have to agree with Eric on this one,, it just takes a little movement to slip out of gear. Let us know what ya find out

Is the PTO shaft turning? There should be a plastic cover over the PTO shaft that does not turn. Look at the ends of the PTO shaft to see if it is spinning when the tractor PTO is engaged.

There should also be a shear pin or a slip clutch involved with the PTO shaft from the tractor to the slasher. If the PTO shaft is turning and the slasher is not turning, then one of these would be the problem.

The shear pin is usually just a grade 2 bolt between the PTO shaft and the gear box input shaft on the slasher.

The slip clutch is a add on device that goes on the tractor PTO output shaft and then the PTO shaft attaches to that.

Hope this was not too remedial but you said you were new...

Its such a great little machine, I hope it doesn't turn out to be lemon.
It has been sitting in a shed for about 15yrs, so far nothing showing up wrong with the engine, going to pull the injectors and get cleaned and buy a new set of glow plugs, changed all the filters and oils.

My Bro is pretty savvy with petrol engines, but learning about diesels.
