Hello,
I have a new Power Horse generator (27kw) 9 months old, purchased new and have some operational issues. The generator will start every time, but after 10 minutes of run time with no electrical load attached, the unit shuts down. I have checked for sediment in the fuel petcock strainer, fuel filter and no sediment or contamination is evident. It's almost like its on a timer to shut down after 10 minutes. I am suspecting a bad low oil pressure shutdown switch, but really hate just being a parts changer. Any suggestions on what the problem is? Has anyone experienced this same issue? Thanks in advance.

I had a similar problem on a Coleman generator. I took some wire-cutters…and cut the wire of the oil press sensor on the side of the crankcasae ….and problem SOLVED!

(Simple solution if that resolves it: Just check the oil-level occasionally. Doh)

Thanks GeoHorn. I have decided to change the oil and filter in this generator just to see if maybe it could be a possible oil pressure problem before bypassing the low oil pressure shut down switch. I am running on the original oil I put in the generator after purchasing this unit. It only has 2.5 hours of run time on the meter, but maybe in the manufacturing process of the engine, there was crud left in the motor, and it won't hurt to try a simple first oil change even though Iv'e owned the unit 9 months. Thanks.

If you have only owned it for 9 months, why not put in a warranty claim and let the selling dealer fix the problem? Every day you wait, your warranty is expiring, so get it fixed correctly now before you find out that it is going to need some expensive parts to get it running correctly in the future. A whole house generator is only as good as its ability to start and run during the outage.

Hello. I wanted to follow up with the fix for my Power Horse 27kw gasoline emergency generator, and I admit it was the Power Horse Generator tech line that suggested the fix for my generator that would only run for 10 minutes and shut down. Power Horse asked me if I put 10W-30 synthetic oil in my generator initially after my purchase of the unit 9 months ago. Power Horse does not recommend synthetic oil, so I changed oil with conventional 10W-30 motor oil plus a new oil filter and this fixed my problem of shutting down after 10 minutes of run time. The Power Horse tech stated they have seen this before, and that the oil make up composition between synthetic oil and conventional oil can cause this problem. I am not a chemical engineer, but wanted to share the fix for my Power Horse Generator. I do know this much that the low oil pressure shut down doesn't work off of oil pressure, but electrical conductivity. I wanted to report out and follow up on this fix. Thanks!
