If you use a power beyond adapter sleeve to feed a second spool valve is it OK to tie into the return line of the first spool valve to return from the second valve? In an open centered system?

seems like a stupid question in my mind. I’ve repaired a lot of hydraulic systems, but I don’t design them.

I’m just trying to achieve the cleanest installation possible without returning to the fill cap like I see on a lot of these L175 type tractors

Yes, they are both low pressure, return to tank. "T" them together works. Some do it right where it goes back into the hydraulic block.

I mounted my spool, right on top of the FEL spool, so I tied them right where they come out of the valves.
Thank you I just wanted to be sure. But you just gave me another good idea.

well, I would like to mount my spools on the fel assembly itself… i’m gonna put it on the fender. The existing spools were for a snow plow, but I wanted them for rear hydraulics. I might just mount those on the left. I don’t know….

I’m trying to get an accurate Parts list for what I’m trying to achieve. I just gotta go take ai’m trying to get an accurate Parts list for what I’m trying to achieve. I just gotta go take a few final measurements…

If I don’t get this right the first time it’ll turn into a disaster

So, for me, I did not buy any hoses before I mounted the valve... Mount the valve where you want it so that you can accurately measure the hoses length correctly.

This is how mine is set up... I only had to buy one extra hydraulic hose to connect the Power Beyond out from the old unit, and connect it to the new Power In port of the new spool. I reused most of the hoses, with no problem (length-wise).

To me, yea, it's a mess but it's a mess that is out of the way.

I am not 100% sure what you you are calling “return” since your title refers to PB sleeve but I will give you a simple explanation for the flow path that hopefully helps.

Flow originates at the pump (of course). It then will go into a valve. That flow will go through the open center valve and then out of a power beyond port and to the next valve into the power in port, through the valve and out the power beyond port and then to the tractor internal 3point valve and dumps into the tractor sump. There can be any number of valves in the chain but the three point has to be the terminal valve. This chain can not have any TEEs in this chain.

Each valve will also have a tank return port (excluding the three point valve). This is the return line from the cylinders that the valves control. One side of the cylinder gets fed pressure and moves the rod piston towards the other side and forces fluid out the other hose. That goes into the valve tank return port and needs to be dumped back to the sump. These tank return lines can all be TEEd together to end up as a single hose to the sump.

On my tractor (L185) similar to your L175 there is a port on top of the transmission case that can be used for this tank return line. Here is a color coded picture of how my tractor is plumbed.

The green is tank return. The red hard line is pressure fed from pump. The red hose is pressure to the valve. The blue hose is power beyond from the valve. The blue hard line is going to the three point valve.

Hope this helps and is not too pedantic or basic. I just want you to be aware that there are two independent paths to return fluid to the sump.
