I have an opportunity to pickup a 2 row Planet Jr 3 point seeder for a good price. It's main purpose will be for planting buckwheat and rye grain for food plots. I can't find a lot of info on how well it will plant those seed. The manual calls out mainly lettuce and vegetables. I refurbed a McCormick 13-7 planter this spring, but feel the Planet Jr will be a bit more manageable for 1+- acre food plots and my B7100. Any info would be appreciated!

You do not need a planter to plant buckwheat or rye. You can broadcast it with a spreader and drag it into the ground. A small $150-200 tow behind spreader will work nicely. An a little fertilizer spread with the spreader and drag the ground with a piece of chain link fence. Done.

Thanks, that's the way I've been doing it, and was looking at a seeder for larger plots. I have 80 acres (about 40 in fields) that hasn't been farmed in 30+ years and my plan is to reclaim about 20-30 acres of the fields over the next few years. A planter seems like it would make that a little more efficient?
