The big difference in 'tractor with loader vs forklift' is when a hose breaks...
On a tractor you'll come down REAL FAST, on a forklift it's a sloooow descent.
At least that's how my forklift was setup, some kind of 'flow restrictor' going down,same as dump trailers.

Ideally, you rent a manlift for the one job, or buy one if you need it a lot

My cheap a$$ would have a very difficult time paying $100+ for those, when a 1/4" drill bit and two "18"ish" pieces of C channel would do the exact same thing.

Yeah, I could make one myself no problem other then the time it would take. I'd rather spend 1/3 the time at my business earning the funds to purchase one.

Made my man basket. Study enough to hold tools and chainsaw. Even use it for sawhorses. Wife is a good operator when trimming trees. Made adjustable safety poles to support the basket it case of hydraulic failure.

Gut one of thos 300 gal toats the top was cut out . the company that was selling them $50. for un cut talked the guy down $10 after he put it in my truck said O gust take it. Works great have trimed sum branckes but realy got it for picking fruit from my trees.

I actually have that same model…. I have used it once. It more or less works, if you treat it as what it is, and not what you WANT it to be. It worked for what I bought it for.

that said, it works better than nothing. I actually roped it to the fork back shield, so it couldn’t slide. That helped a bit.

the biggest issue I ran into was that you can’t raise or lower it in use. Since as you raise the fel, it rotates, making the platform angle. So I still had to use a ladder to get into it!
Anyway, yeah, I wouldn’t buy it again.

To the OP, if it makes you feel better I had a customer whose house we where framing several years ago when I worked for my brother lift me up on nothing more then a pallet with a peice of 3/"4 plywood on thetelehandler forks to do the house wrap. She was a fairly novice operator, I would put the machine in postion so she just had to lift me without moving the machine she would raise it up I would do as much as I could she would lower the boom I would maneuver over to the next section rinse and repeat. So... things are only as "dangerous" as you make them

If your a little handy, think "C channel, inside of a C channel" and a series of holes to make it adjustable.

I started with a used $25 IBC container:

Changing a light over the garage. Not shown: The 10' ladder I use to climb into the platform, nor the doubled 2x4's I use as a safety catch in case of catastrophic hydraulic failure.

Adding a cell phone antenna to the side of the house.

Tree work. In this case, I put the basket/platform right up against the tree. This stabilizes the platform and prevents it from falling if the hydraulics fail.

My cousin and I installed this 2m ham radio antenna the last time he was here. We couldn't have done it without the tractor forks platform:

It is 12' wide. If I jump on a corner I can lift a back tire up. I put a counter weight on it.

I think I'm going to get an IBC tote to modify. I can pick one up for less then half the cost of the platform I've shown.

I've also been considering IBC totes for firewood to lessen the handling time moving it from the woodshed to the house so this will be a good opportunity to give both a shot.

One other thing...don't use this for your employees. When someone gets hurt YOU will be liable. Rent/buy a man-lift and keep it certified and inspected.
