Trying to find a set of extensions for my pallet forks. The Vestil brand looks good but had a few one star reviews on Amazon. They are made of 3/16 steel. Be or is 1/4 steel but half the price of the Vestil. Same type of reviews. Lots of fives but several one stars saying they bent. Specifically, I’m look for a 4-96. The extension is for balance primarily with the primary load bearing at the quick connect. Total weight to be lifted will be around 800 lbs max, again with the primary load at the rear of the forks. Shipping on several I have looked at is over $100 except for Amazon Prime which is free. Any suggestions or experience with a particular brand would be greatly appreciated.

If your able to do metal working, you might be better off to build your own from channel iron.

I've used extensions made from 'boxed' 2by6's 8' long to move pickup boxes with my forklift,as well as moving 9by12 garden sheds.
'boxed' means 2by6 top and btm of fork, 2by4s on the sides, with 'wedge' at tip of fork(keeps extension firm and level.
This might be a possible option, at least to try ?

I may have to give this a try. If I could even find 2x4 boxed steel (1/40 that would work. I mainly need it to stabilize.

L.K. Goodwin Co. makes their fork extensions from "C" channel, tapers the leading edge, and adds a retaining strap. The link follows:

Thanks. i Have a good friend that has just come into some serious steel stock and we are going to build a set. He is a master welder and is getting the stock in trade to build a piece of specialized farm equipment. We are going to use 6” C channel. I will check out the L.K. Goodwin site you sent as well. I checked on .25 rectangle steel today and they want $222 for an 8 foot section. Dang.

Hello Captain13,

LK Goodwin is located in Providence, RI so the freight cost is going to be too high (via common carrier). Fedex would probably be cheaper but still too much money. You can get an idea how they look, and then fab them yourself. You could grind the taper, and use flat bar stock for the retaining strap. Just keep in mind your reduced capacity as you get further out in front. (It goes down fast!)
Good luck

Bob

I use 2x6x0.125 rectangular tube for my extensions. Was cheaper for me to buy a 40 footer length of tube from my steel supplier than to buy ready made extensions. Spare tube is handy for making custom metal pallets for my implements on my storage racks.

Hello Mikester,

If they work for you, that is great, and the square tubing weighs weighs a couple of pounds less per foot than the "C" channel. A tractor typically cannot lift what a fork lift can, and I would think that you are just looking to fully support the load, so square tubing extensions make sense.

Good on ya!

I think my problem was solved today. I went to farm and construction equipment auction today. They had a set of extensions 10 feet long made of 1/4 and 7/16 steel. They were actually unused. $350. Again I don’t need the length for lifting but for stability. Max weight to lift will be under 1000lbs. However, I need to be able to rest the extension tips on the edge of cap blocks and slide the load onto the blocks. When moving, the pallet forks would be tilted up so that the weight is primarily on the rear of the forks. Thanks for the input guys.

Well, the extensions worked. The 7040 handled them with no problems. Glad I bought them and based on all the prices I’ve seen, I got a great deal. I can’t even pick one extension up by myself so I have to leave them laid out to drive into them.

NICE they work for you !
Place them on 3-4 blocks, up off the ground.
Slows down the rusting and makes it easier to get them on and off.
