No, I designed my splitters to run engine at the sweet spot( max torque vs RPM) NOT at 3600 RPM which would waste fuel. I also ran pumps at 3500 PSI,unlike typical tractor <2000 PSI

I cannot comment on how you build things.

My L3901 tractor system is 2400 PSI and produces ~6.8 GPM @ 2800 RPM. I have torque and horsepower to burn and plenty of splittung force at any engine RPM. Flow rate (SPEED) is the sole issue.

I pair that 6.8 GPM tractor supply with a regenerative splitter valve that gives me a low pressure first stage flow of ~11 GPM. The result is splitter speed just slightly slower than a 3600 RPM box store gas splitter but still faster than I can manhandle 24" rounds.

I dont need and could not effectively use anything more than that. It is a good fit for my usage and I am sure lots of other people fall into that same category.

Why does there always have to be one answer for everything?

I bought a very lightly used Oregon 28 ton splitter with a Honda engine a couple of years ago for $1,200 and it works well enough for me. Is it the best thing since sliced bread .... nope, but it's good enough. I've never had and never will have any interest in running a log splitter on a tractor but I can appreciate that others have different needs, goals or interests.

I admire the folks here that use (and not abuse) the crap out of their tractors. So many seem to think more about the next owner than themselves. It's like buying a new car or truck and putting on seat covers! Why not enjoy what you paid for? If we all believe that we'd keep our tractors until the very end I bet we'd care less about running pto driven chippers, log splitters or generators off them, or getting to 5,000 hours.
